5k Run Will Benefit Military Dog Teams

Posted
TIPPECANOE – A 5K benefiting military working dog teams will be held at Potawatomi Wildlife Park in September.

Tails on Trails 5K Dog Walk, presented by Military Working Dog Team Support Association (MWDTSA), will be from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 23. Entry fee is $15 for human and dog.

Funds raised will help with care packages sent to deployed military working dog teams.

Four times a year, MWDTSA sends over 200 boxes to deployed military working dog teams, filling them with needed supplies and some comforts from home for both handler and dog. The cost of supplies and mailing the box run about $150 per box.

MWDTSA was formed in 2006 in Georgia by Dixie Whitman and Retired Lt. Col. Ken Besecker. It was designed to coordinate, channel and encourage support to benefit active duty and retired U.S. military working dogs and handlers.

The organization solicits funding and in-kind product donations to meet requests for K9 health and welfare, K9 training, retired military working dogs, active duty dog handler welfare and morale, retired dog handler causes and events, military working dog memorials and educating the general public on the history and use of military dogs.

More information on MWDTSA can be found on its website at mwdtsa.org.
