1-1/2 Years After Fire Destroys Bus Garage, WCS Opens New FacilitiesOn Tuesday, members of the community attended an open house commemorating the opening of Warsaw Community Schools’ new transportation building.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the building, located at 310 E. CR 200N, Warsaw, the same location as the previous bus garage.
The completion of the project follows a 1-1/2-year construction project after the loss of the former bus garage in a fire.
Early in the morning on Jan. 7, 2016, an electrical fire began in the shop area of the building, destroying the building as well as five buses and mechanical equipment.
During the time the WCS transportation department was without a formal building, staff worked at a number of temporary locations to continue ensuring students arrived safely to and from school each day.
“We are so excited to open up our new transportation building. It has been a year-and-a-half process to create this new home base for our transportation department,” said WCS Superintendent Dr. David Hoffert.
“A huge ‘thank you’ to our drivers and staff for ensuring student routes and daily transportation of our students continued forward without major disruption. Their work and commitment to our schools, students and community has been exemplary and we are extremely grateful,” he said.
The project was completed by Robinson Construction, Warsaw.
During the event, Hoffert, board members and the administrative cabinet grilled out for appreciation of the transportation staff and those who made the project possible.
A news release states, “WCS would like to thank local emergency responders as well as neighboring businesses and residents for their assistance and support following the fire.”
