Wawasee boys basketball coach Joe Luce is no longer holding his post, effective immediately, the school announced in a press release Tuesday morning.

Various percentages of approval (ranging from 68% to 76%) among Indiana high school boys’ and girls’ basketball coaches have been noted in news articles and social media regarding the IHSAA’s consideration of the 35-second shot clock for Indiana high school basketball.

Looking to pick up a road win in the Northern Lakes Conference for the second straight week, the Warsaw boys basketball team traveled to The Pit to take on co-NLC leader NorthWood on Friday night. In what was a low-scoring, downright ugly game at times, the Panthers were able to squeak out a 31-30 win on a last-second free throw.

Not having suffered a loss since November, the Whitko girls basketball team traveled to Syracuse Thursday night to take on Wawasee in the regular season finale for both teams. It was a slow start, but eventually the Lady ‘Cats got into a rhythm and there was no stopping them from there. The team heads into sectional winners of 20 straight after a 67-22 victory.

This week, Jan. 26-30, marks the 100th anniversary of the Atwood Greyhounds winning the 1926 high school basketball county tournament that ran three days, from Jan. 28 to 30 of that year.

This year's inductees are Courtney France (Lavender), Thad Winter and Tim Yocum

Grace’s men’s basketball team took down St. Francis 85-74 in a gritty Crossroads League match on Wednesday night.

Ted Huber, the head football coach at Warsaw Community High School from 1988 to 1994, passed away last Tuesday. He was 83 years old.

I have been keeping a secret from you all.

Winners of nine of their last 10 games, the Wawasee boys basketball team looked to defend the Hardwood Teepee against Bethany Christian on Tuesday night. Playing some great basketball lately, that trend continued as the Warriors played nearly flawlessly in a 63-40 win headlined by 32 points from center Stephen Akase.

Grace’s men’s basketball team cooled off a red-hot Taylor squad, taking down the No. 23 Trojans 83-70 on Saturday.

I’m incredibly happy about the Indiana University (IU) Hoosiers’ clinching the College Football Playoff title last Monday.

A week after picking up a massive Northern Lakes Conference victory over previously undefeated Goshen, the Warsaw boys basketball team hit the road to take on fellow NLC foe Concord. It truly was a game of runs, with the final one belonging to the visitors. The Tigers picked up a 56-51 win to move to .500 in conference play.

Coming off just its second loss of the season, the Warsaw girls basketball team set its sights on Akron and rival Tippecanoe Valley. The Lady Vikings gave the Lady Tigers one heck of a battle, but eventually the visitors were able to wear the home team down in a 55-32 victory to get back into the win column.

Saying goodbye is never fun, but sometimes, it’s much harder than others. This is one of those times.

It’s Sunday night, and I am standing up from my favorite reclining chair because I can’t take it anymore.

The Warsaw girls basketball team has not found itself on the wrong side of the scoreboard very often over the last couple of years, having suffered just two regular-season losses over the past two seasons. One of those came to Homestead, the team visiting the Tiger Den on Tuesday night. The Lady Tigers were not able to get revenge this time around, falling 66-52 in a top three match up in the state.

No doubt Harrison Mevis broke a lot of Chicago Bears fans’ hearts Sunday night with his game-winning field goal for the Los Angeles Rams in overtime, eliminating the Bears from the NFL playoffs. But it came as no surprise to Warsaw Community High School head football coach Bart Curtis, not to special teams coach Cole Richards.

Grace’s men’s basketball team racked up its 19th consecutive victory with a 104-83 win at Goshen on Saturday.

These two words popped into my mind during a weekly phone call Sunday morning with my uncle/godfather where we cover topics including business, politics, entertainment, and sports (of course).

Looking to get back on the right track after suffering a tough loss at Northridge last week, the Warsaw boys basketball team faced another tough task in the form of undefeated Goshen on Friday night. …

Fresh off an emotional victory over rival Northridge this weekend, the Warsaw girls basketball team welcomed conference foe Mishawaka to the Tiger Den on Thursday night. This game was not as close as the previous Lady Tiger victory, but the result was still the same. Just about everything went right for Warsaw in a 88-21 win.

If you’re a fan of both the Indiana Hoosiers and the Chicago Bears, you must think this is all a dream, right?

Undefeated and boasting the title of No. 1 team in the country, the Grace men’s basketball team welcomed perhaps its biggest test yet to the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center on Wednesday night and passed it with flying colors. The Lancers dominated visiting No. 3 Bethel for all 48 minutes, cruising to a wire-to-wire 99-81 win.

There is a lot to be said for leftovers from the holidays.
