The Warsaw community will be well represented in New York at the Nike Indoor National Track and Field meet on March 12th through the 15th.
Warsaw seniors Sammi Rastrelli (running at DePaul University next fall) and Eden Metz (running at Indiana University Indianapolis next fall) will be joined by junior Savannah Purdy. Three freshmen will be making their debut at the Indoor Nationals level as well. Finley Hummitch, Gracie Boren, and Dani Rastrelli will be rounding out the group of six females competing.
On the boys’ side, Jordan Randall, a future Georgia Bulldog, returns to the Armory with his sights set on defending his national high jump title after last year’s impressive victory.
Over the course of four days, the athletes will compete at the historic Armory Track in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood. Known as the world's premier indoor track and field facility, The Armory hosts over 100 competitions annually for athletes of all ages and is home to the Millrose Games, the world's longest-running and most prestigious indoor track and field competition.
Running under the WR2 Track & Field club, the females will be competing in eight events of various levels. This year’s roster covers both speed and endurance, allowing for the group to qualify for and compete in a variety of relays as well as individual events.
Boren and Hummitch add a dynamic of sprint-speed to the established distance strength of Metz, Purdy, and the Rastrelli duo. This added level of event-depth allows the group to compete in the Sprint Medley, 4x400, 4x800, and 4xMile relay events. Additionally, the three freshmen will be competing in their “specialty” as well. Hummitch racing in the 60-meter race, Boren the 200 meter, and Dani Rastrelli in the mile. Eden Metz will also be facing off against the best in the nation as she competes in the Championship 800-meter event.
WR2 is excited to continue to provide training for and access to these national-level events. WR2 and the Warsaw community have been represented for the past six years, with twenty-four athletes competing at a national event. With a strong pipeline of talent, robust training, and community support, many more athletes will have the opportunity as well to continue to compete at this high level. WR2 and its members appreciate the support provided by several local businesses and families to help with offsetting a portion of the costs associated with participation in these events.
