KENDALLVILLE – The high temperatures weren't the only thing to scorch the field in Saturday's girls golf regional at Noble Hawk Golf Links.
The Lakeview eighth grade volleyball team won the Dunes Middle School Tournament Saturday. Lakerview defeated North Judson 25-12, 25-14; Grissom 25-9, 25-5; and Krueger 25-10, 25-14 in pool play. In bracket play with one game they beat New Prairie 25-21 and Kesling 26-24 for the title. Wrigley Crabtree had four aces and four kills in the tournament, and Abbie Porter had five aces, 54 assists and 6 kills. Sara Peugh had 25 aces, seven kills,and an assist; Kylie Smith had 15 aces,16 kills and an assist; and Cora West had 16 aces, 24 kills and an assist.
SYRACUSE – For Warsaw soccer fans, Saturday was a day to enjoy their hot teams. For Wawasee and its fans, it was just hot.
GOSHEN – The Warsaw Tigers extended their win streak over the Goshen RedHawks to 10 years, and in doing so picked up a much-needed victory as the regular season winds down.
AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley’s first half was just a smidge better than Manchester’s second half, and it was enough for the Vikings to take a 20-14 Three Rivers Conference win over the Squires Friday night at Valley’s homecoming.
Southwood scored its first touchdown 75 seconds into the game, then scored three more times in 1:17 later in the first period en route to a 56-6 rout of visiting Whitko in Three Rivers Conference football Friday night. The game was an inter-divisional TRC matchup, and didn’t count in the standings. Zach Gardner rushed 18 times for 68 yards and a late touchdown for the Wildcats. Hunter Reed had 67 yards on 16 carries.
After Wawasee drew first blood, 4A No. 13 Plymouth pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 34-6 Northern Lakes Conference football win over the Warriors Friday night. Jacob Hand returned a punt 63 yards for a touchdown to stake the Warriors to a 6-0 lead in the second quarter. The game was tied at six at halftime, and the Rockies led just 14-6 entering the fourth period.
The Warsaw volleyball team held a food drive in conjunction with its match Tuesday at the Tiger Den. The team collected canned food, other non-perishable food items and cash. The Lady Tigers donated over 500 food items to Our Father's House and 15 food items to the Animal Welfare League. The cash was divided between the two charities.

WINONA LAKE – Playing at less than full strength, Grace College’s women’s soccer team still produced a 1-1 tie with Georgetown on Wednesday. The Lady Lancers thought they had beaten Georgetown, a team that is also receiving votes in the NAIA. But an overtime goal from Jenni Phillips was controversially disallowed for being offsides.

PLYMOUTH – Neither team was at full strength, but both the Warsaw boys and girls cross country squads concluded the Northern Lakes Conference dual season with wins over Plymouth and Wawasee Tuesday evening on a 5K course at Pretty Lake Golf Club.
The Triton at Pioneer football game scheduled for Friday night has been moved to Thursday to accommodate the visitation for Cameron Scarberry. Kickoff time for the game in Royal Center is 6:30 p.m.

WINONA LAKE – Manchester’s boys soccer team needed to revamp itself after losing a star player. Tuesday’s 6-3 win at Lakeland Christian went a long way toward that makeover.
The irony of the sports world is that we use it as a diversion from our everyday lives and activities, but it’s played by humans so we cannot completely escape from reality in it.
