Lakeland Christian Academy presented its fall sports awards recently.
Grace’s volleyball team completed an emphatic sweep of Bethel on Friday night at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center. The Lady Lancers (19-14, 11-6 Crossroads League) were in control for most of the match en route to a 25-15, 25-21, 25-17 victory. Alexa Hill directed a dynamic attack for Grace, passing out 40 assists. The Lady Lancers had a 43-29 advantage in kills, and every Grace attacker hit at least .200 for the match. The Pilots (13-19, 6-10 CL) held a slight 12-9 lead in the first set before Grace pulled ahead. The Lady Lancers dominated the rest of the set, winning 16 of the last 19 rallies to score a 10-point victory. Caylie Teel and Sierra Smith each had five kills in the game. In the second set, Grace’s defense muted Bethel to the tune of nine kills and eight errors. Tori Bontrager had two kills and two block assists in the four-point win.

BOURBON – Time and again Triton has had to overcome, and the host Trojans proved themselves to be resilient once more Friday night, besting Winamac 48-29 in a Class 1A Sectional 41 football semifinal.
The Warsaw Tigers were named an Academic All-State team by the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association Thursday.

The Northern Lakes Conference announced its selections for boys and girls soccer all-conference teams Wednesday afternoon. Warsaw placed five players on the All-NLC girls team, none of which are seniors. Juniors Anna Grill and Dayle Harvey, and sophomores Abby Steffensmeier, Delaney Taylor and Brenna Buhrt represent the Lady Tigers on the team. Brenna Shipley and Alex Koontz were honorable mention for the Lady Tigers. Wawasee junior Olivia Birch was named to the all-conference team, and Sara Pritchard was honorable mention.
Tippecanoe Valley soccer coach Mark Gordon stepped down from his post Tuesday, according to a statement released by Valley Athletic Director Duane Burkhart. Gordon started the Valley program from scratch four years ago. The Vikings played at the club level for two seasons before becoming an IHSAA-sanctioned team the last two years.
If you look up the word “resilient” in the dictionary, you just might see Grace’s men’s soccer team pictured. The Lancers were facing a 1-0 deficit with eight minutes left against Mt. Vernon Nazarene on Wednesday in a crucial late-season matchup. After the dust had settled on the final frantic eight minutes, the Lancers came away with a 2-1 victory at 1st Source Bank Field. The win means the Lancers (8-4-4, 5-2-1 Crossroads League) can secure second place in the league standings on Saturday by beating Goshen. Saturday’s match at Goshen is the regular season finale and starts at 7 p.m.
Grace’s volleyball team earned a crucial win in five sets on the road against Mt. Vernon Nazarene on Wednesday night. After taking a commanding 2-0 lead, the Lady Lancers dropped the third and fourth sets to keep the Lady Cougars alive. Grace (18-4, 10-6 Crossroads League) came away victorious after winning the fifth set 15-9, clinching third place in the Crossroads League standings. Savannah Hart led the Lady Lancers’ attack, producing 18 kills with an efficient .567 percentage; she also contributed 8 block assists. Grace’s offense was consistent with 58 kills and a .220 percentage.
Tippecanoe Valley Middle School Fall Athletic Awards
WINONA LAKE – On Monday, Grace College will host high school administrators, principals, athletic directors and coaches from across Indiana for the first annual TELL Summit.

Valley Youth Wrestling Programs Beginning Soon AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley wrestling opens the season with two programs; the elementary camp and the wrestling club. Both will be held in the Valley Middle School commons and are open to all students K-5, as well as students outside of the Valley school corporation. The camp will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. Nov. 6-9. Wrestlers and parents can enter through the main entrance at TVMS. There is no charge for the camp.
Grace College’s men’s golf team wrapped up the fall campaign at the prestigious Whistling Straits Golf Club on Tuesday. The Lancers finished in 15th place at the Whistling Straits Invitational. The course was home to the PGA Championship in 2015 and will host the 2020 Ryder Cup. Grace was one of two teams who lowered its team score in the tournament. After carding a collective 331 as a team on Monday, the Lancers finished with a 323 to place 15th out of 20 teams.
Grace College volleyball libero Sara Miller earned national recognition on Tuesday as the NAIA National Defender of the Week. Miller, who has been the Crossroads League Defender of the Week twice this season, leads Grace’s back row. She boasts 1,798 digs to her credit and is just shy of 600 digs (597) for the season.

Freaky 5K On Saturday The Cancer Care Fund is hosting a Halloween Family Fun Run/Walk, The Freaky 5K, on Saturday. Race day registration begins at 8 a.m. at the K21 Health Pavilion on Provident Court. There will be overall male and female winners, plus first and second-place medals for each age division.

CULVER – Triton needed to play one of its best volleyball matches Saturday in order to advance to a 1A regional final. Instead, the Lady Trojans lost 25-22, 25-18, 25-10 to No. 6 Pioneer at Culver Community High School.
Wawasee junior Luke Griner qualified for the state meet in Terre Haute by finishing 12th in the New Haven cross country semistate race Saturday on the IPFW campus. Griner completed the course in 16:20. The Warriors finished 12th of 20 in the team standings. Michael Hammer was 65th in 17:31, Braxton Alexander 66th in 17:33, Thomas Conley 98th in 18:02, Jace Alexander 103rd in 18:10, Bennett Hoffert 114th in 18:31 and Spencer Hare was 129th in 19:17
