AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League announced its 2018-2019 men’s basketball preseason poll and preseason All-League award winners on Wednesday, as voted on by the league’s 10 head coaches.

The eighth grade volleyball teams from Edgewood and Lakeview middle schools played each other for the Northeast Lakes Middle School Conference Tournament championship. Edgewood won the title by beating Lakeview 25-12, 25-22. Edgewood defeated Bremen 25-18, 25-19 in the semifinals, while Lakeview beat Wawasee 25-23, 25-16. WINONA LAKE – Bethany Blackwood’s big week brought another award on Tuesday when the Grace College women’s soccer player was named the NAIA National Defensive Player of the Week.

If you have ever tried to accomplish much of anything in your life, you have surely run into obstacles.

ANGOLA – Mother Nature forced the postponement of Saturday’s Class 2A boys soccer sectional final at Angola High School.

Brothers Kaige and Kanyon Michael placed first in the 2018 State Youth Bowling Tournament. The Michael brothers, who go to school in the Whitko School Corporation, placed in doubles in their division. They are the sons of Chad and Cindy Michael of Warsaw.

Football NELMSC Tournament

Harris Hits Hole-In-One Kurt Harris hit a hole-in-one Saturday at Raccoon Run. Harris aced the par-3 No. 7, and witnesses were Ben Grubbs, Sam Cook, Steve True and Charlie Lisenbee.

CULVER – Neither Mother Nature nor the competition was able to keep Warsaw’s boys and girls cross country teams from extending their cross country sectional championship streaks Saturday.

TOPEKA – Led by the Calizo sisters and a second-half surge, Lakeland Christian Academy’s girls soccer team became the first team in school history to win a sectional championship in any sport Saturday.

WINONA LAKE – On Homecoming Saturday, Grace College’s men’s soccer team had to settle for a scoreless draw with Crossroads League rival Taylor University.

NAPPANEE – In what was a tale of two halves, the Warsaw Tigers came up just short in a battle for the top spot in the Northern Lakes Conference Friday night.

KNOX - Triton started strong and forced fumbles to pull out a 14-12 win Friday in a Hoosier North Athletic Conference game at Knox. 

AKRON – It wasn’t pretty, but the Tippecanoe Valley football team got it done Friday.

WINONA LAKE – It took five sets, but Grace College’s volleyball team ended Friday night with a dramatic season sweep of Taylor.

Brenna Buhrt, Warsaw girls soccer coach Jon Hoover said with a smile on his face, has a knack for playing well against Huntington North.

Warsaw volleyball coach Rick Ashmore left it to his seniors to end the season strong Wednesday.

WINONA LAKE – The Grace College Athletic Department will induct four members into the Lancer Hall of Fame on Saturday morning: Val Weinstein (Lundgren), Phil Dick, David James and Kris Calizo (Doron).

FORT WAYNE – The Manchester High School girls soccer team saw their season end Thursday in a 2-0 loss to host Blackhawk Christian in a 1A sectional semifinal.

BUNKER HILL – After a pair of lopsided outcomes Wednesday evening, the Class 2A boys soccer sectional championship at Maconaquah High School is set.

WINONA LAKE – Grace College’s volleyball team sent shockwaves through the Crossroads League with a 3-2 upset of No. 18 St. Francis on Wednesday.
