For the first time since 2010, Grace’s cross country team will have a new coach leading the team. Jake Poyner, a Warsaw graduate, will coach the Lancers in 2019 for his first season. Jeff Raymond transitioned into a new position as Grace’s Director of Cross Country and Track and Field starting this school year.

Liz Van Wormer continued her goal-scoring ways with a hat trick on Monday for Grace College’s women’s soccer team. The No. 15 Lady Lancers (3-0) topped West Virginia Tech 4-0 on the road to remain undefeated. Van Wormer, a Warsaw Tiger graduate, has now scored five goals in the past two matches.

Grace Stumbles On Second Day Of Lancer Classic

The Warsaw Tigers smelled red meat when they took the field with the Huntington North Vikings. The Tigers capitalized on three third-quarter Viking turnovers in the second half in the visitors’ territory for the killing blows to build a 45-13 lead before sophomore safety Ayden Sherman capped the night’s scoring with a 53-yard touchdown fumble return leading to the 52-13 final score.

At the newly christened Tim Dubois Field at North Miami, the host Warriors gave plenty of excitement in just the first few seconds of the new football season. A three-touchdown performance each from junior Darian Hanley and senior Tristan Working proved to be a little too much as North Miami battled back from an early deficit to win 41-27 over the Squires.

After going 1-9 a season ago, the Wawasee Warriors matched their 2018 football win total on opening night when they defeated the Lakeland Lakers 28-14. The Warriors scored in each quarter, maintaining a high level of intensity throughout the game.

Grace College’s volleyball team celebrated its season opener in style, sweeping both of its matches on Friday at the Lancer Classic. The Lady Lancers (2-0) beat Governors State 3-0 in the afternoon match before sweeping Robert Morris in the nightcap.
