Grace Tennis Starts Season With Sweep Of Bethel
MISHAWAKA – The Grace Lancers mens tennis team (1-0) started their season off in dominate fashion Tuesday, taking a 7-0 victory over Crossroads league Rival, the Bethel Pilots (0-1).
Starting the day with doubles action was Freshmen Mauricio Corty who, along with Max Rozas, picked up his first collegiate win in the No. 2 doubles slot with a 6-2 victory over the Bethel squad.
Pavle Popovic had an outstanding day that really set the tone for the Lancers. In doubles, he teamed up with Milan Savic in the No. 1 doubles spot to take a 6-2 match victory, before transitioning to singles action where he swept both his sets 6-0 from the No. 1 spot.
Kye Barrett also won both his matches, teaming with Jacob Gray to take a 6-1 doubles victory, and in the No. 6 singles slot sweeping his opponent 6-2, and 6-1.
Also, seeing his first action as a Lancer, was freshman Ramiro Candia. Candia was placed in No. 3 singles spot and it took only two sets for him to notch his first victory.
The Lancers will host the University of Northwestern Ohio at the Miller Athletic Complex at 2 p.m. today.

Lady Lancers Dominant In Sweep Of Bethel
GRANGER – Grace’s women’s tennis team opened the season with a statement sweep of Bethel on Tuesday, winning 7-0 to record the first shutout of the season.
The Lady Lancers (1-0) showed dominance over the Pilots (0-1), especially on the doubles’ courts.
Emily Mast and Dayana Ortega shutout their opponents at No. 1 doubles, and Carrie Copeland and Jayna Armstrong also won 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Morgan Mast and Gretchen Adams closed out the doubles with a 6-3 win.
The Lady Lancers also won at every singles’ position. Emily Mast and Copeland set the tone with two decisive wins. Mast won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, and Copeland won by the same score at No. 2.
At No. 3 doubles, Ortega secured the victory while surviving the closest game of the match (6-0, 7-5).
Morgan Mast was perfect (6-0, 6-0) at No. 5 singles, Armstrong won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4 singles, and Shelby Bankson rounded out the scoring with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles.
The Lady Lancers continue the season at Valparaiso on Thursday.

Women's Soccer Ranked No. 15 In First NAIA Poll
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Grace’s women’s soccer team is off to a fast start to the 2019 season.
Grace is ranked No. 15 in the first NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll after coming off a 20-win season.
The Lady Lancers are 3-0 after the first three games of the 2019 campaign. Grace is outscoring its opponents 13-1 already this fall.
Grace will face a pair of ranked opponents in the coming weeks, including No. 3 Southeastern (Fla.) on Sept. 5 on the road and No. 10 Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) at home on Sept. 12.
Grace is joined by No. 4 Spring Arbor and (RV) Marian among Crossroads League teams in the NAIA poll.
