John Alan Groat, 67, a lifetime resident of Warsaw, passed away on Jan. 10, 2017 in his home. He was the son of John R. and Ethel L. Anderson Groat. He was a 1967 graduate of Warsaw Community High School. He was married to Joyce E. Easterday on June 26, 1971, in Columbia City’s Faith Baptist Church. She survives in Fort Wayne. He had worked for DePuy as a machinist for more than 30 years. He was a former member of Warsaw Wesleyan Church and enjoyed congregational singing at church. He enjoyed many types of music, especially traditional Christian hymns. Those who survive include his wife of 45 years, Joyce Groat, Fort Wayne; daughter and son-in-law, Ethel and Rod Massing, Fort Wayne; two grandsons, Kevin Massing, Columbus, Ohio, and Donavin Massing, Fort Wayne; and his brother, Robert Groat, Richland, Mo. He was preceded by his mother, Ethel Groat; father, John R. Groat; stepmother, Nellie Groat; and two sisters, Alma Ragan and Eva Engle. A memorial service is planned at a later date. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw. On March 14, 1950, he was born in Prestonsburg, Ky., to Robert and Betty Fraley Crum Sr. He was united in marriage to Donna F. Wallen on June 16, 1973, in Clintwood, Va. She preceded him in death Dec. 14, 2013. He moved to Warsaw in 1971, where he worked for Dalton Foundry, Warsaw, as a forklift driver, retiring in 2010. He enjoyed working, fishing and spending time with his family.

Patricia "Pat" Ann Wallen, Warsaw, passed away at 12:46 p.m. Jan. 6, 2017, at her residence at the age of 73. She was born Dec. 10, 1943 in West Palm Beach, Fla., to John H. and Dorothy Louise Thomas Slone. On March 16, 1963, she was married to Milton Wallen, who passed away Feb. 22, 2001.
ROCHESTER – Edna P. Carpenter, 104, died Jan. 1, 2017, at the home of her daughter. She was born Nov. 9, 1912, in Newton County, to Adolphus and Eva Hildreth Howell. In Morocco, on June 11, 1931, she married Chester Ray Carpenter. They enjoyed over 78 years of life's adventures. Priscilla A. Woods was called home on Dec. 17, 2016, from her Warsaw residence. She was 76 years old at the time of her passing. She was born on March 26, 1940, to J. LeRoy Anderson and Annie Jones Ryan in Roanoke, Va. She would graduate in Roanoke from Lucy Addison High School, but spent much of her adult life in Warsaw.
Austin D. Hauth, 85, Warsaw, passed away peacefully at 11:04 a.m. Jan. 4, 2017, in Warsaw Meadows Care Center. He was born May 7, 1931, in Warsaw, to Roy E. Sr. and Thelma M. Dunn Hauth. He married Patty J. Gordon on Oct. 3, 1954, in Warsaw. They were married 62 years. He was a 1951 graduate of Warsaw High School and spent much of his life in Kosciusko County, except for 20 years in Sebring, Fla. He moved back to Warsaw in 2008. He was a tool and die
Ernest William “Bill” Male, 89, Tecumseh, Mich., completed his earthly journey and stepped into eternity with his Savior on Jan. 5, 2017, at Cambrian Memory Care Center in Tecumseh. He lived the largest portion of his life in Warsaw and Winona Lake.
RUSHVILLE — Carole Diane Pike, 75, a lifelong resident of the Arlington/Rush County area, passed away Jan. 3, 2017, in Rushville. She was born Feb. 18, 1941, in Rush County, to Earl David and Mary Ellen Jones Stout. She was a 1959 graduate of Arlington High School and attended a business college in Indianapolis. She married David Ross Pike on July 11, 1963, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 1, 1998. She worked in Indianapolis for Travelers Insurance and also worked at Swain Real Estate. She was a member of Arlington Christian Church in her early years and later attended St. Mary's Catholic Church. She enjoyed crafting stained glass art. She is survived by her sons, Bradley Ross (spouse Sharon) Pike, Rushville, and Jeff Pike, Florida; a sister, Susan Stout, Spring Hill, Fla.; six grandchildren; and two great–grandchildren. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Moster Mortuary, Rushville, with the Rev. Jeremy Greis offering a prayer and blessing.
