Letters To The Editor

Editor, Times-Union:Your Saturday story on the upcoming special session prompts me to offer some thoughts on the situation.

- Festival Of Trees - Fighting Two Wars Festival Of Trees Editor, Times-Union: Since the end of the Festival of Trees two weeks ago, I've had time to really think through what an experience it was …

- Time Zones Time Zones What a mess! Who would have ever previously thought the state of Indiana would have time zones split by county? Marv Gunter was correct in his recent letter to the editor, things appear to be moving forward apparently through special interest groups and without public input. And, from what I can gather, it's leaning heavily toward Central Time. It's been said no one wants to be in the Eastern Zone.Strange, they've never asked me and I've talked with several other people who favor Eastern time. They've never been questioned either! I've lived where the time moved forward one hour and really liked it.What nice, long evenings we had to accomplish whatever we set out to do.I also live on a farm and it's been said farmers are against Eastern time.Hmmm.Strange again, I'm unaware of any public meetings where this input could have been gathered.

- Trucking - Theft Trucking Editor, Times-Union: This is a kind reply to the article from last week. My name is Brandy Yates of Yates Trucking out of Mentone. So trucking companies are supposedly …

Editor, Times-Union:I just saw Gov. Mike Pence on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace talking about a number of issues in Indiana and proudly explaining SB229, a bill pertaining to our Second Amendment rights that was passed by our legislature and signed by him last month.

Editor, Times-Union:There is a law going through the State legislature that is indeed strange.

Editor, Times-Union:For those of you with questions about your sewer bills, begin attending the town meetings.

Once in a while, I witness something, do something or hear something that makes me stop and think. On Nov.10, I did something which made me do just that.I helped out a troubled motorist. And I want to tell you the story and explain why it made me stop and think. But please don't think I'm trying to toot my own horn.I don't like people who do that and try not to boost my own ego. However, to get to my point, I have to tell the story. After leaving a meeting in Syracuse Tuesday, I stopped at a gas station in Pierceton on my way home.I went in, paid for my gas and headed out the door.As I was walking out, I noticed a young man, about my age, having trouble with his truck. He couldn't get it started. My first reaction was to walk on, thinking he could handle the problem himself.Halfway to my car, I stopped.I had to ask myself why I didn't offer some kind of assistance.

Editor, Times-Union:I am writing in support of Richard Mourdock for the U.S. Senate. Richard Mourdock is a fiscal conservative who will work to protect both our seniors and our children.

Editor, Times-Union:I have had the privilege to be a part of the Lincoln School district for seven years now.

Editor, Times-Union:The preliminary plan for the Lakeland Regional Sewer District treatment facility, according to our LRSD Board, is that it will have a 400,000-gallon capacity.

Editor, Times-Union:I read with interest the letter to the editor about a local builder

Editor, Times-Union: I follow C-SPAN daily and have for sometime. I hear a lot about the TEA party. As I see it they want to slow down the spending in this country that has gotten us into the mess we are in. Everyone agrees we spend more than we make and that it will have to stop or sooner or later nobody is going to lend us anymore money.

- Puzzling Budget - Help Otis - Farm Runoff - Marriage Concerns - Lots Of Millers - Purpose Of The Military Is To Protect Our Way Of Life Puzzling Budget Editor, Times-Union: One of the first educational toys given to children is a jigsaw puzzle. The game teaches us how to assess each piece as to how it fits in the completed picture This is a skill we learn at a very young age, yet we use it frequently throughout our adult lives.

Editor, Times-Union:Recently, a group of Warsaw people were sitting around in Marco Island, having dinner, swapping lies, solving the world's ills, including bemoaning with vigor the dysfunctional antics of the Halls of Congress.

President Coolidge famously remarked that “the chief business of the American people is business.”

Editor, Times-Union:Regarding the article "Indiana Lawmaker Files Bill To Soften Alcohol ID Rule" in Friday's paper.

I recently, with a great deal of interest, read the letter to the editor from Linda Berger on "CR100 and Flooding."

Editor, Times-Union:It seems people are living longer than years ago. I know a lady 102 years old and still going strong.

Editor, Times-Union: Letter to Congressman Stutzman: Given the extreme weather across the country, and the danger it poses to our food security, it is astonishing that you voted to prevent the USDA from even preparing for climate change. Your denial is a threat to all Americans.

- Defense Of Opinion - Monitor Downtown Parking - Outraged - Nuclear Option - Shop With A Cop Defense Of Opinion Editor, Times-Union: I would like to say a few things in Gene May's defense. In defense of his constitutional right to freedom of speech and his undeniable right to freedom of thought. Although I have not read that many of his letters it has been brought to my attention that he is now receiving hate mail as a result of his criticism of the Bush administration and his views of spirituality. This is abhorrent in and of itself regardless of the extremity of his views.

Editor, Times-Union:Seriously, Times-Union? The Feb. 29 issue of our local newspaper reported that a local high-ranking law enforcement official had been arrested for several felonies.

Editor, Times-Union:To the gentlemen who wrote in about our roads, I'm with him.

The Whitko Board of School Trustees believes the key to educational success is in student achievement.

Editor, Times-Union:The town council of Winona Lake would like to reply to a recent article by Mr. Jerry Nelson in order to state the facts regarding an ongoing lawsuit.
