- Letter From Monica - Loving Care - Generous Community Letter From Monica Editor, Times-Union: I would like to share with you a letter to Heather Florey from her 6-month-old baby, Monica Hatfield. Dear Mom, I know you'll be very happy to know that I came home from the hospital with Grandma (Pam Hiers) and Aunt Michelle today. They have to be very careful holding me since my skull was crushed in the back and my kidney was damaged. My brain swelling has gone down, but they say I'm very fragile.I don't move my head very much since it hurts so bad.I just move my eyes to see things. My blindness is gone.It was only temporary.
Editor, Times-Union:If you are a farmer, homeowner, developer, business owner or local elected official, now is the time to submit comments to the EPA and Army Corps of Engineers challenging their expanded definition of “waters of the U.S.”
Editor, Times-Union:My husband and I visited the Warsaw, Pierceton and Elkhart area for about two weeks in September.
Editor, Times-Union:Just a few days ago, my wife and I were driving around Palestine Lake.
Editor, Times-Union:In regard to Miss Leek's Nov. 20 view of our flag being flown upside down;
Editor, Times-Union:On July 14, 2006, my son-in-law was in a motorcycle accident in Marysville, Ohio.
- Terrorists And Liberals - Are You Really Free? - Prescription Drug Costs Terrorists And Liberals Editor, Times-Union: The latest explosion in Baghdad made me realize how much the goals of the terrorists are the same as those of liberals in America. 1) They both want American troops to leave Iraq. The success of our troops in the nation makes both terrorists and liberals look wrong.
Editor, Times-Union:The concept of blindfolded Lady Justice holding an evenly balanced scale is a myth.
Editor, Times-Union:We built a house north of Pierceton and moved in December 2006 from Elkhart County.
Reduce, reuse, recycle! That is our mantra here at the Depot.
- MDA Lockup - Post Iraq - Take A Stand - WCHS Musical - Thanksgiving - GSA MDA Lockup Editor, Times-Union: I want to take this opportunity to thank the Kosciusko County community for their incredible support during our Warsaw "Most Wanted" Lockup to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The event, held Nov.14, pledged an overwhelming amount of $31,038! Special thanks to our Lockup participants who dedicated their time and efforts to raising funds for MDA's local patient services program, as well as their generous contributions.
Editor, Times-Union: It is of importance to add “jobs,” an opinion voiced all over our country.
Editor, Times-Union:The Friday, February 8, 2015, Times-Union editorial page contained an editorial by the Tribune News Service titled “Islamists.” This article stressed that defeating Islamic terrorists “is a challenge to unite U.S. and Arab nations.” President Obama now wants to fight ISIS. This would be a continuation of American folly.
Editor, Times-Union: My family and I have a one-year-old permitted sheltered animal feeding facility, otherwise known as a CAFO, in Kosciusko County. We utilized the Beginning Farmer and Rancher programs to assist in providing financial support to our family farm project.
Editor, Times-Union:This letter goes out to the Silent No More fanatics who think that the money the State of Indiana needs to fix roads, build bridges and fund our public schools grows on trees.
Editor, Times-Union:It is true that action speaks louder than words.
- Thanks To Animal Hospital - Campaign Finance Thanks To Animal Hospital Editor, Times-Union: My family and I wanted to write this letter to thank the staff at Lake City Animal Hospital. Our dog Max had allergies all his life.We changed our vet to Lake City when we were told Max probably had cancer by another vet who didn't offer us the compassion and support we were going to need. Dr.Pam Brickley at Lake City was extremely understanding and supportive. She took samples and told us that day that Max probably only had 3-6 months to live.As we struggled to keep our emotions in check, Dr.Brickley answered all our questions. She told us we would most likely have to put Max to sleep when his quality of life started suffering.
Editor, Times-Union: I would like to know why State Rep. Kubacki thinks that union workers make too much money?
It’s a “first” for our school community … and even though the Yes or No Referendum question on the May 5th ballot does not contain the word “children” … make no mistake about it … our “kids” are on the ballot … years’ worth of kids … and whether we like it or not … so are we.
Editor, Times-Union:I am asking the Town Councilmen of Winona Lake a favor. Before they vote on an ordinance to change the direction of Court Street from 12th Street to Auditorium Boulevard from one-way south to one-way north, would they please visit the location and walk around the area. (The Fourth of July weekend would be the perfect one to watch the traffic flow.)Take the turn off Administration to Court Street onto Court Circle and see how smooth the transition is now. Consider the long junket someone living on Court Circle (where I live) would have to travel if the one-way change takes place. They would have to cross the bridge on Auditorium, go south on West Canal Street, west on 12th Street, north on Court Street and then west on Court Circle! We also own a house on Court Street. The four other Court Street owners I had a chance to talk to about this one-way change yesterday, when I first heard about it, were not aware of it either. So, apparently all the agreement and decision-making about approaching the council took place at the opposite end of Court Street – the south end. That end apparently gets benefits of some sort from this change. The north end only gets a long crazy unpleasant drive down to 12th Street and back – many times a day, if it is me.The other odd thing is that at Auditorium, Court Street is going to have itself turned into two one-way streets facing each other head on – an accident waiting to happen! All for what? It is not just the people on Court Street and Court Circle who are affected. Just think of the enormous amount of new traffic that will start going by West Canal and 12th Street and the houses at the south end of Court Street. I would imagine no one has considered that. Noise level, peace and safety and their general island tranquility will change and the alleys will be much more in use. Sometimes you must be careful what you wish for. I would request the councilmen seriously consider this vote and hope they will not change the direction of Court Street to one-way north. Maybe they should consider changing 12th Street. to one-way east. Perhaps that would help give a circle effect and help out the folks at the south end of Court Street. I just do not feel it is my job to drive miles out of my way every day for a problem that surely can be solved other ways.At the very least, a decision of this magnitude should have had the whole neighborhood invited for discussion. When this came up before, time was taken to invite the previous townmarshall to study the situation. He understood the traffic pattern confusion that could occur and the decision was made not to do it.Jan NelsonWinona Lake, via email
- Gun Bias - Lost Camera - Target Date Gun Bias Editor, Times-Union: Received a nice letter from Ervin Bolt Yesterday.Always good to hear from Ervin. We go back a lot of years. Sent me a copy of something called "Imprimis."Called "The National Speech Digest of Hillsdale College."This particular issue deals with the media bias against guns. Of course, that's only been going on since 1792 but it's gotten a lot worse since the United Nations has decided the Second Amendment must be repealed. Strange, is it not, our founding fathers set up the First Amendment that the press might defend the constitution of the United States but all they seem interested in defending is their little portion of the First Amendment. Going to bite them someday.Perhaps it's already begun.
- Polling Places - Positive Feedback - Double Play For MDA - Aviary Thanks - Leaders - Winter Charity Drive - Veterans Day Polling Places Editor, Times-Union: All new voter registration cards are now issued with this printed on them for a location: "POLLING PLACE IS NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME." Inside the folded card the instructions say for any questions, call the phone number printed on the front of the card. There is no phone number listed on the card. After missing the last election because of this "flumadiddle," I called the County Offices and was eventually forwarded to the County Clerk's Office.
Editor, Times-Union:Wow! What fun! Everyone is involved, that's the goal, isn't it? I love a lively exchange.Sarah, good to see our East Coast contingency is watching, but I neither think of McCain as a boy, nor as a candidate. I'm still looking for the box on the ballot that says, "none of the above," still looking for that corn dog, too. Bet I'll find one at the Apple Festival.Matt, sorry, the hate thing is yours. I am working on my anger issues, but I don't hate anyone, and, in fact, I do believe that the mess we call the world won't ever get better by man's hand. I also believe that many will think it's getting better, right up to the moment when the delusion ends. Oh, thanks for putting me on some Web sites, hope you included the context with the quotes.Harold, shoulder to shoulder or back to back, I'll cover you. Be aware though, if we are back to back, those words you hear me mumbling won't be the Constitution.Jeffrey W. HardingWarsaw, via e-mail
Editor, Times-Union:This Spring and Summer appears to be another construction filled timeframe on U.S. 30 going through Warsaw.
Editor, Times-Union:Has Obama gone deaf and blind to go along with his stupidity? He just made the comment that Romney hasn’t come clean about his taxes. Did not Romney just produce his taxes and the tax man says he paid his fair share and what he was supposed to? But a lot of true Americans are still waiting on our blunder in chief to produce a real birth certificate.
