Letters To The Editor

- Bayh - Libertarians - Leukemia - Vote Bayh Editor, Times-Union: When a candidate for the United States Senate plainly tries to deceive the public with his television advertisements, he does not deserve our votes. This is especially true when the same candidate repeatedly ignored the plight of the mentally ill when he was governor of Indiana. Evan Bayh knows very well that he demanded a state tax increase when he was governor, but the Republican General Assembly refused to inflict that increase on taxpayers of this state.Yet he is now deceptively taking credit for the fact that we had no tax increase.

Editor, Times-Union:I could not believe my ears when I heard on the radio that G. W. Bush signed an executive order, back in July, allowing our military to mount operations in Pakistan without any permission.

Editor, Times-Union:The following is a letter that my son-in-law wrote to his month-old daughter last week.

Editor, Times-Union: With the recent Susan G. Komen Foundation/Planned Parenthood funding issue we have been, once again, hearing from the media about all the great services that Planned Parenthood supposedly offers to help women. Unfortunately, as usual, the media doesn’t report the negative.

Editor, Times-Union:I'm writing in regards to the story on the front page of the Oct. 23 Times-Union.

Editor, Times-Union:In response to the “Factual Information” letter of 3/21, written by Kaci Scheve, here is another letter of ignorance.

The inexorable march towards the "unspeakable" concluded last week. Despite the public opinion polls, despite the highly partisan nature of the controversy - despite the threat of a long, protracted Senate trial, The United States impeached a sitting president for only the second time in the nation's history. To nearly two-thirds of the American people, the whole idea that President William Jefferson Clinton will be forced from office is unspeakable - something that borders on a surreal impossibility that is inching ever closer. What is most disturbing to me is this is all so unnecessary. The president could have spared us all from the long and tortured process now under way.He could have done the honorable thing and resigned.

Editor, Times-Union: This letter is to help my readers understand how or why I perceived the Tea Party as terrorist.

Editor, Times-Union:I'm watching Dateline's "To Catch A Predator."

Editor, Times-Union:Mr. Gerard, in your "News Views" column in the 8/1 & 2 edition of the Times-Union you asked the question, “Where does it end?” The question was in relation to everyone that is offended about something today.

- Free Trade - Moral Values - Defending Rights - Homosexual Rights - Madison Says Thanks - Bush Accomplishments Free Trade Editor, Times-Union: It is with great interest that I always read your columns advocating free trade such as the one which appeared in your Wednesday edition.I would offer one small word of advice, when you tell of the great benefits that the exportation of jobs such as those in the service sector will bring to the U.S., you need to spell them out right then and there for all to see.I admit along with millions of other Americans that I need help fully appreciating these "benefits" that await me in America's future.

Editor, Times-Union:Mr. Eppenbaugh should follow his own advice and read his own letters.

Editor, Times-Union:Let me see now, arrogant, self-serving, idiotic and stupid.

Editor, Times-Union:Mr. Gerard, when you have people like James Humphrey agreeing with you, it may indicate you've moved a bit too far left.

There's no cure for cancer.Or AIDS. Human rights are being violated in China, in South Africa and in Kosovo. People in the United States kill one another over a pair of shoes or the color of another's skin.Thousands of children die every day around the world from malnutrition, neglect and abuse. Men beat their wives and children.Teenagers become alcoholics daily. And all the while, people turn the other cheek. Companies merge and lay off hundreds or thousands of employees.A serial killer strikes again. People burn books, music, movies and art because they find the material offensive. They think everyone has the same morals and values, or should have the same ones as them.Forget the first amendment. A young adult tries drugs for the first time and becomes addicted.Another one sells their body for money to survive on the streets.

Editor, Times-Union:I would like if the public would take a good look at the idea of doing away with our present income tax ...

Who had the biggest impact on you? Obvious answers would include parents, friends, siblings and other relatives. You might throw in your religious leader or a celebrity.Perhaps a neighbor. But don't forget your teachers. From the time you enter kindergarten until the time you step off the platform with your high school degree, they will mold you and enrich your life like few others. They will teach you how to spell, write, add, subtract, inform you about the world around you past and present and help you learn to solve problems. They will be the ones you rely on to give you the materials you need in life to accomplish your goals and achieve your dreams. They will challenge the way you think, the way you write and the way you relate to others. And that's not even counting the professors you'll have in college should you choose to go that route.
