When I was young, I used to wish my parents were a little less protective and a little less strict. They used to tell me it was because they loved me.And here's the kicker: when I was spanked (with a thick wooden paddle, I might add), they always told me it was because they loved me and it was for my own good. My own good? Are they serious? As a child I couldn't understand how punishment could be good for me. Just tell me your opinion and I'll take it into consideration. That's what I used to think.Well, my parents didn't go for that with me, with my older brother or with my younger brother, either. Rules were enforced by my parents "in their house" and "as long as I lived under their roof, I would do as I was told."That one didn't go over too well with me either.
Editor, Times-Union:If no one else will go into that dark night, I will. Don’t kid yourself, anyone who has a driving need to transform this great country, has no respect for America or anyone in it, including those who keep her strong and protect her shores.
Editor, Times-Union:First of all I would like to publicly thank all of the many concerned Warsaw citizens who stopped me at Wal-Mart and told me that they are on my side on how the city, Warsaw, is treating me.

Editor, Times-Union:The actions of our Congress and Senate bickering over the funding for our troops and demanding a withdrawal timetable has been a moral victory for the terrorists, in my opinion.
Editor, Times-Union:As a pastor for over 30 years I am aware that there is an ongoing attempt by some elected officials at the state and national government level to control and harm churches and their ministries.
Pass the salt. And a little ketchup, too, if you don't mind. I'll need something to help mask the taste of the crow I'll have to eat once the Senate drives a stake through the heart of the effort to return a sense of dignity and honor to the institution of the presidency later this week. I'll endure the barbs and the gloating, I'll suffer through the "I told you so," and "Can we move on, at last?" comments. To my friends and colleagues who have stood by Bill Clinton (I will never call him president again, he will never again deserve to be referred to as my president) as he slipped the noose of conviction in the Senate, I want to remind them of where I've been in the controversy from the start. On July 31 last year, I wrote in this space: "Is it really OK to lie just because you are accused of wrongdoing by someone who is unpopular or less attractive than the average beauty queen? "I sure hope not.But the recent polls aren't encouraging.

Editor, Times-Union:As I read David Slone's review of Wagon Wheel's "To Kill A Mockingbird," I couldn't help but wonder how a professional writer with presumably at least a seventh-grade education could think that his article was accurate and insightful.
