Editor, Times-Union:With families finalizing their plans for summer vacations, many will soon be hitting the road on their way to their favorite summer destinations.

Editor, Times-Union:I spent the first 17 years of my life in Kosciusko County, including nearly every Saturday night in Warsaw.

Editor, Times-Union:The president wants this nation to become an Obama nation.

Editor, Times-Union:I know it is not the weekend, but kudos to J.M. The idea that 9/11, be known as national service day - per the anointed one - is so disgusting.

- Grandparents' Rights - Commissioner Training - Bonded Indebtedness - Tax Cuts Grandparents' Rights Editor, Times-Union: On Jan. 12, 2000, I was delighted to read in Times-Union the article, "High …

Editor, Times-Union:Forgive my ignorance but I am a bit behind the times on some things.

- Home Health Care - Huskies Say Thanks - Music Man - Waste Task Force - Fly The Flag - American's Creed - Young Republicans - Teacher Praised Home Health Care Editor, Times-Union: I write to praise an excellent health service organization in our community - Home Health Care and Hospice. In January I broke my leg and was confined to my home.Home Health Care came to me and made life far easier and more pleasant for me.The nurses, therapists and home health aides were all very kind, caring and efficient. My thanks to all those very special people. It's good to know that our county has such a resource available.

Editor, Times-Union:Short and sweet is how I will keep this, keeping in line with the coverage that the Times-Union bestowed upon the participants of the Downtown Days held Saturday in Warsaw.

Editor, Times-Union:We have a huge problem in the state of Indiana concerning our child support division. I am trying to fix that. First of all, there is a lack of enforcement.

Editor, Times-Union: “A mother’s love for her child is like nothing else in the world.  It knows no law, no pity, it dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path.” – Agatha Christie.

Editor, Times-Union:Rebecca Kubacki, former District 22 state representative, recently submitted an op-ed in which she presented a compelling case for the need to embrace our diversity and reject the hate we see all around us. As an Hispanic-American, Mrs. Kubacki shares from experience and from the heart and she should be applauded for her willingness to speak out.

- Property Devaluation - Waste Contract - Milford Phenomenon - Fire Department Thanks - Thanks To Parks Board - Thanks To Board Members Property Devaluation Editor, Times-Union: This is to inform the taxpayers of Kosciusko County just how little our county commissioners do to protect our properties from devaluation due to adjacent and nearby house condemnations.

- Get Informed - Thanks To Heartline - Angry At Andy Rooney - Teens For Life - Strong Faith Get Informed Editor, Times-Union: Politicians are elected to office to serve the people they represent, to seek out the needs of their constituents and to help meet those needs, to set examples, to be trustworthy and honest, to be fair to all entities that rely on them for funding.Unfortunately this is not always the case. Some politicians can rely on their track record to speak for them. But does the public know the facts? Some bend the rules to meet their needs, others have to rely on such tactics as mudslinging and last-minute mailings to discredit their opponents.

Editor, Times-Union:Is it chemicals in the water? Our strange masters at Indianapolis called legislators have gotten into the hair business.

- Good Samaritans - Elian - Special Olympics Good Samaritans Editor, Times-Union: We would like to take this opportunity to express our deep appreciation to several people who assisted us during a …

Editor, Times-Union:How many times have we heard, “The reason for the season”? How many phone calls do we get wanting money? The caller may say I’m from a church for the homeless or a veteran organization. Do we really know?

Editor, Times-Union:We have a president who sold us leadership, his confidence, and his ability to deliver.

Editor, Times-Union:Re: Steven Hite, Don't Ask Don't Tell.

Editor, Times-Union: I said I was done with writing letters but I had to on this one.

- Debt - Wants Menards Debt Editor, Times-Union: The best-kept public secret as to why the sneaky governors are selling off the state infrastructures seems to escape most tax slaves.Whether you have noticed or not, the U.S.A is worse than broke. Its trillions in debt to corporations and nations all over the world. Our people have gone along with the building of a mountain of debt for generations.Old and young alike have been on a debt drunk all their lives. If you want wars, you have to pay for them.If you max out your credit cards, you must pay the piper. If you take on bloated mortgages for houses three times the space you need, you have to pay for them. At the same time you allow billions each year in foreign aid to keep corrupt third-world leaders living in grand style.Even the money you give away is borrowed.

Editor, Times-Union:Today’s Bike to Work Day reminds us that the number of Hoosiers biking to work has jumped almost 40 percent over the last few years.

- Accident Photo - Utilities Accident Photo Editor, Times-Union: I would like to let you know that I felt your photo on the front page of the accident scene near Atwood was in very poor taste.I can think of no reason whereby any reader needs to see that young man's blood on the roadway! I appreciate our "need to know" and be informed, but I feel that picture was a cheap attempt to sell papers, and in no way educated us, enlightened us, or informed us better than simple headlines could have done. That boy's family has been hurt by your photo, and I think you have done more harm than good.

Editor, Times-Union:I recently read a letter that appeared in your readers column. The lady said she would not shop at Wal-Mart as long as they sold imports from China. Does she not realize that our USA does not make anything anymore? Our factories have closed down and/or moved south to Texas, near Mexico, for cheaper labor. Don't blame the factory owner. Put the blame on our unions for getting the high wages that priced us right out of the market. If we could make any and all small or large appliances here in our USA, we could not afford them. If the automakers did not pay the workers $60 per hour for line assembly our cars would be cheaper to buy - maybe. My brother worked in a machine shop in Waynedale, then they shut down and moved south to Texas for cheaper costs. I worked at General Electric in its better days. Now I read where they only make motors for golf carts.Buy a fishing lure that is packaged in plastic. Read the fine print. Made in China, packaged in Mexico. Do not put blame on the companies who moved. Buck knives moved from California to Utah for cheaper wages. We will never see factories in our USA to make our goods for the reasons mentioned above.Anxious to hear responses from your readers.Paul R. PattonLeesburg, via e-mail

- American Values - Good Old Days - Courageous Writer - The Rains Came American Values Editor, Times-Union: It's a phrase with meaning and value to us or we wouldn't use it so much! Yet how often do we ponder the deep meaning of the three words? Warsaw Mayor Jeff Plank spoke to our men's breakfast."Traditional American Values" was his challenging, unforgettable subject. "My wife and I thought we should try to pass on to our children the great life-enhancing American ideals we had received," he said. Having a problem naming these values, they asked their children to help list and discuss them around the dinner table. They listed about 12.The Planks wrestled with the challenging ideas.I hope the list affects you as it has me.
