- Old Values - Hep B Vaccine - Great Britain Old Values Editor, Times-Union: It has been awhile since I last gave my opinion on anything, but several things have really come to light and I just don't get it. Hezbollah is a Lebanon-based terrorist group that started a major scuffle with Israel. Now, first of all, no one should mess with Israel (read your Bible and learn why).Anyway, if you read the newspapers it sounds like poor Lebanon is being overwhelmed by the Israeli army for no reason at all.Hello! Back up to what I said.Who started this mess, and if they are being bombarded, it is their own fault.Don't ask for trouble if you can't stand up to the consequences.
- Christmas Parties - Angie's Lights - Nut Sale Thanks - Good Kids Christmas Parties Editor, Times-Union: This is the first year I have had a child in school; and have been very disappointed to learn that the school system will not allow parties (Halloween, Christmas, etc.) in the classroom. These were some of my most fondest memories of grade school. We believe that the children are being deprieved of fond school memories.I understand there are different beliefs of the holidays; but there always has been.Ê We use to make changes to accommodate everyone. All the children wanting to participate could bring in a canned good, and still have their Christmas party in class.
Editor, Times-Union:There are more creative ways to motivate kids to get involved in charitable works without demeaning pigs and forcing them to participate in a kissing display that objectifies them and finds humor in our negative and inaccurate view of pigs.
This week on my way to work I was listening to a radio morning show when I heard the most outlandish thing.

- Accident Prevention - Country Living - Thanks To Volunteers - Acts Of Kindness - Heart Wrenching - Bad Newspaper Accident Prevention Editor, Times-Union: All goodhearted persons are appalled at the pain and sorrow, destruction, injuries and deaths that occur due to automobile accidents. Can anything be done to prevent accidents? The National Safety Council teaches that most "accidents" can be prevented. However, they have a training course in accident prevention too extensive to discuss herein.
Editor, Times-Union:The occupant of the White House and the spineless, pandering Congress have passed a stimulus package that would throw some crumbs my way.

Editor, Times-Union: My wife and I are the parents of 5 boys. We are very glad to have our oldest three boys attend Lincoln Elementary School. The teachers there are excellent, and we are thankful for the influence they have had on our children.
How can you tell when people's value systems are all screwed up? When Indiana University Basketball Coach Bob Knight makes the top section of page one of every newspaper across the country day after day after day. Give me a break, please! Is Knight really that important? Not in the least. He's not the president of the United States, a senator or even a mayor. He's just a coach, a guy making a living by teaching young men how to play a GAME. He's a long-term employee of a college who has been too physical, too vulgar and out of hand too often, that's true. His actions will not determine the fate of the world, however, or whether or not taxes rise or fall. If a player feels threatened by Knight, the player has options. The player can leave the university, like Neil Reed did, or sue.And while that will get covered, the story can be saved for the back pages or the sports sections, but not for page one day after day after day.
Editor, Times-Union:I was amused to read Greg White's letter in your March 1 edition on receipt of stimulus money.
- Meijer Debate Meijer Debate Editor, Times-Union: The 30 days for delaying the decision of "To Meijer or Not to Meijer" by the city council is almost over. There has been a lot of mud slinging and name calling flying from all directions in the community.Political leaders, property owners, the city planners and anyone remotely associated with this decision have been victimized by mud slinging and name calling. All parties involved are self serving. That is their job. Since I have been labeled a NIMBY, I guess I must wear that label.Even though the term was not one to compliment, I will wear that label proudly.ÊI am a NIMBY.I don't want Meijer to go into the proposed location. My view of a field had no dreams of a commercial store like Meijer and a 24-hour lighted parking lot in it.
