In working at Kosciusko Literacy Services, I am in the same area of Lakeview Middle School's building as the Alternative Learning Center where people come to continue their learning so they can get their GED. My hat is off to all of you who have done that for yourselves and to those now working to do the same! You are awesome! In today's world, a person cannot get a job of any kind without a diploma or GED.
What I see blows my mind! I feel the fear the teachers go through every day as young children, teens and adults go into fits of rage and sometimes become quite violent. You politicians who cut the budgets from schools need to come witness the risks that the staff here and in our public schools every day they teach a class. And then you have the nerve to say that they don't need a raise! How dare you!
I have an idea. How about we take away the entire salary of every politician until they increase the budgets of the schools and schools are able to go to whatever length is necessary to teach students until they have good math, reading and English skills? Maybe we should withhold their pay until they get our country out of debt regardless of whether they have to forfeit all but one home to live in. Many average people don't even have that now, do they? How do you think that affects a student's self-esteem and ability to do good in school?
