Editor, Times-Union:To Jan Caudill:Who should a person suffering from hermaphroditism be attracted to without being abhorrent?Holly Hamilton FancilWarsaw, via e-mail

While being a working journalist can be a very satisfying career, there are times, as in any profession, when one can be embarrassed by how colleagues conduct themselves professionally. Most times, it's simple things that can be easily written off as careless mistakes and forgotten. The other times, it gets so bad that it's not hard to under stand why our profession is often rated somewhere between loan sharks and Three-card Monte dealers on the public's opinion scale. Case in point - Geraldo Rivera. Relaxing the other evening, after a long, hard day working over the notebook and keyboard, I was surfing through the cable channels and happened onto the CNBC new network. They were in the middle of airing Geraldo Rivera's nightly news discussion program, modestly named for the host.

- Will Of The People? - Thanks To Hospice Will Of The People? Editor, Times-Union: At this moment, I am almost speechless.I was educated to believe in the American way.I actually got A's in Government all the way through college.I actually believed that the will of the majority would prevail over self-interest. Monday night, I attended a Board of Zoning Appeals meeting, along with nearly 100 other Rolling Hills residents, in opposition to a zoning variance requested by LRC Products Inc.for an industrial business to encroach into a residential neighborhood. It is in direct conflict with established zoning laws, and opposed by Rolling Hills residents because of potential property devaluation. In spite of the obvious, the request was granted. So much for the will of the people.

- Pet Responsibility - Silent Majority - Voting Insights Pet Responsibility Editor, Times-Union: Today I saw a puppy left all alone in a fenced backyard. It's obvious this is the puppies living space. Editor, Times-Union:We’re number one! We’re number one! Yes, Indiana has been ranked number one again. First it was meth labs, then infant mortality, now we’re tops in the nation in water pollution. I have to wonder if perhaps there is a correlation between the last two.
