Still 'Superman'

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:

I'm sitting here looking at the front page of the Times-Union article about our troops, with my cousin Luke Gibson next to his wife and baby in hand. I'm sitting here knowing in my adult mind he's a husband, a father and very soon going off to fight a war and being asked to do very grown-up things.

But all I can picture is a sandy-haired little boy, jumping through the yard with a cape tied around his neck, being "Superman." I see the same giving, generous and sweet boy who loved dinosaurs. That little guy who collected acorns in Mason jars, played with my baby sister and will probably always be known to us as Lukie. I see that sandy-haired little boy in my mind, with his cape behind him, and I realize that maybe some things don't change. Yes, he may have traded a super hero cape for camouflage and instead of an "S" he wears a flag on his arm, but to us, he's still Superman.

So Lukie, God bless you. May He keep His hand of protection over you and bring you home safe and as fast as He can! We are all proud of our Superman!
