Women Preachers

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:

I know no one has written about women preachers for awhile, but each week I sit in the pew and tell myself something has to be said. So, here I go.

I have read the letters to the editor. I have read the scriptures. But I still have to say that Claypool United Methodist Church has been blessed to have had two excellent women preachers. Each one has been an inspiring spiritual leader.

The first was Kay Patton, and now we have Evelyn Taylor Haney. Both ladies felt God calling them to the pulpit. You can debate all you want on whether they belong there, but once you've heard them preach, there is no doubt they were called. The Spirit comes alive in their words and dances in their eyes.

Like good shepherds they listened when Jesus told Peter, "Feed my sheep." After one on their sermons you feel stuffed. You've had an ample serving of what you need to sustain you through your coming week.

This next part is for Kevin. You might say that both ladies are farmeresque, that is, they both are outstanding in their field.

If you would like to share in our joyful experience, come on down. We'll be glad to have ya, and we'll have "The Light" on for ya.
