I don't often write letters to the editor, but I enjoy reading them. I think it is great to have an avenue to express your opinion, and to do it in a public forum.
While reading an article in Thursday's paper on the appointment of a woman pastor at the United Methodist Church, Claypool, I was reminded of two of the last verses in the Bible.
"For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, if any man shall add unto this book, God shall add unto him the plagues that are in this book, and if any man shall take away from this book, God shall take away his name in the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things in this book."
Read those two verses again. What a strong statement. We all sin, and Jesus died for us all, but so many churches today lose their doctrine on what fills their church, not on the Lord's word. They ignore those two verses, like so many others, because it doesn't fit their lifestyle, or isn't politically correct in today's times. They have homosexual pastors, and coffee and retail stores in the House of the Lord.
In John, Chapter 2 Verse 16, Jesus says, "Take these things hence, make not my Father's house a house of merchandise." He said this while overturning their tables.
While reading the Bible, I am reminded of all the Christians that were put to death for their faith. All they had to do was deny their belief in the Lord, or be tortured and killed. Men, women and children were murdered, because when faced with death, they would not deny the Lord. Are today's Christians that strong? When many of today's churches pick and choose what they want to live by, and have to sell cappachinos, coffee and line dancing, everything is based on entertainment. They believe God is a God of love and tolerance, which makes a person wonder. God is a God of love and mercy, not tolerance. He is a God of anger and punishment, who destroyed thousands of His own people for their sinful ways. God will forgive you for your sins if you ask for it and you mean it. That's the love. Many times we are still punished for those sins. Tolerance is a word used to condone sinful lifestyles in many situations.
The Bible is filled with verses on the deviant conduct of homosexuals and the punishment the Lord gave them. It also talks of the woman's role in the church, and that a woman is not to lead the church. It also talks of men's role in the church.
These aren't just my opinions. Anyone can open the Bible and read the Lord's words.
I'll end this letter with a few pet peeves; cigarette smokers throwing their butts on the ground; spandex bike riders, riding side by side not respecting automobiles behind them, then crying if you pass them; children not in a car seat; Harleys and cafe motorcycles, they always rev them up when they're stopped at lights. Cool, we see you.
Before I go, abortion is murder and Harold Kitson for mayor.
