Winona Lake Man Sentenced In Sexual Battery

A Winona Lake man will serve up to four years in prison on two counts of sexual battery.
Adrian Altamirano, 52, of 1202 Wooster Road, #18,?was sentenced Thursday morning in Kosciusko?Superior Court I.
The charges result from an incident in July when a minor girl was staying at his house. Altamirano got on top of the girl and started kissing her on the neck and would not let her up.
The girl told her friend, who believed her because Altamirano allegedly had done the same to her. When police investigated the two incidents, Altamirano gave them a false name, according to court records.
Altamirano was charged with one count of child molestation, two counts of sexual battery and one count of false identification.
Altamirano entered a plea argument with prosecutors on Jan. 31. The child molestation charge was dropped in exchange for the guilty plea for the other charges.
Judge David Cates warned Altamirano that he might be deported due to the plea.
Altamirano’s attorney, Jay?Rigdon, argued that it was an isolated incident brought on by alcohol abuse.
“If you look at his criminal history, it’s all alcohol-related charges,” Rigdon said,
Cates sentenced Altamirano to serve 1-1/2 years each on the sexual battery charges, and one year on the false identification charge to be served consecutively. He will get 232 days credit for time served.
