Whitko Volleyball Team's Sweep Of Manchester Leads Roundup

SOUTH WHITLEY — In Three Rivers Conference play Thursday in South Whitley, the host Whitko Lady Wildcats defeated Manchester in three games, 25-21, 25-17, 25-21.
Elaine Warner led Whitko with 11 assists, while Maddie Gawthrop had a team-high six kills and Dana Hobbs posted six aces.
For Manchester, Marret Metzger had four kills, Kaitlyn Parrett record four digs and Rae Bedke finished the match with 10 assists.
Whitko will be at Saturday’s Westview Invitational, while Manchester hosts its own invitational Saturday.

The Wawasee volleyball team swept Bethany Christian at home Thursday, 25-15, 25-17, 25-22. Improving its season record to 8-1, Hunter Gaerte had 15 digs, six kills and two aces, while Alli Ousley posted 19 assists, eight digs and three aces for the Lady Warriors. Wawasee hosts Manchester Tuesday.

The Triton boys cross country team nabbed the top five slots during Thursday’s Northern State Conference meet in Bourbon, defeating Knox 15-40. Triton’s Derek Johnston won the race in 19:20, followed by teammate Bryce Wanemacher in second with a time of 19:44. Triton will be at Saturday’s NorthWood Invitational.

Thursday in Warsaw
Playing on their home course for the first time in two weeks, the Warsaw girls golf team shot 172 at Stonehenge, although it didn’t need that low of a score against Elkhart Memorial, which shot a 258. The win improves Warsaw to 8-1 overall and 2-1 in the Northern Lakes Conference. In the dominating victory, senior Nikki LaLonde was the medalist with a 40 on the par-36 front nine. Warsaw hosts Goshen and Northridge Tuesday in a three-team NLC showdown.

In a three-team Northern Lakes Conference match at Nappanee’s McCormick Creek Golf Course Thursday, the host NorthWood girls golf team came out on top. Playing on its home course, NorthWood shot a 179, followed by Wawasee’s 182 and Northridge’s 250. On the par-36 course, NorthWood’s Heidi Morganthaler was the medalist with a 40, while Wawasee’s low score was Kylee Rostochak’s 45. On the par-35 front nine, Manchester finished with a 214, followed by North Miami’s 221, Whitko’s 222 and Tippecanoe Valley’s 232. Manchester’s Claire Barnett was the medalist with a 48, while Whitko’s low score was April Bishop’s 53 and Valley was led by Alyssa VanMeter’s 55. Valley is at Rochester’s Round Barn Golf Club Tuesday to face Rochester and Maconaquah, while Whitko and Manchester hit the road to face West Noble Tuesday at Syracuse’s South Shore Golf Club.
