Whitko Baseball Awards Presented TuesdaySOUTH WHITLEY – Drew Bradford, Alex Bechtold, Landen Goff, Zach Hewitt and Alex Robbins shared the most valuable player honor at Whitko’s baseball awards banquet Tuesday at the high school.
Bradford was also named the “Cy Young” award winner as the Wildcats’ best pitcher, and the Silver Slugger award as the team’s best hitter. Bechtold, Goff and Robbins shared the Coach’s Award and Hewitt was the Gold Glove winner as the team’s best defender.
Austin Hollowell was the most improved, with Colin Craig and Ryan Day earning mental attitude awards.
Major awards went to Bradford, Bechtold, Craig, Day, Goff, Hewitt, Bailey Platt, Robbins, Austin Hollowell, Zach Morris, River West and Spencer Sroufe. Minor awards were presented to Christian Carnegie, Zakk Neer, Nathan Smith, Chayce Zorn, Devon Akers, Clayton Ebbinghouse, Landon Grable, Colten King, Mason Lehman, Cody Thompson, Bhrett Weese and Andrew Wood.
School records set by the 2A Wabash Sectional champion Wildcats were Goff with 128 plate appearances and 35 walks; Bradford with 103 at-bats, 34 runs batted in and nine wins as a pitcher; Bechtold with 40 runs scored, Sroufe with 192 put outs and Hewitt with 226 chances.
Team records set included 1,051 plate appearances, 815 at-bats, 159 walks, 32 sacrifice bunts, 216-1/3 innings pitched, 228 strikeouts, 648 putouts and 949 fielding chances.
Career-highs were established by Bechtold with nine triples, Bradford with three shutouts and nine sacrifice flies, and Hewitt with a .987 fielding percentage.
