What About Horseback Riders?

Warsaw has a beautiful path for walkers, joggers, and bicyclists. Atwood just opened a new walking path. But what about us?

There are benefits for walkers, benefits for joggers, benefits for bicyclists, benefits for bikers ... but what about us?

By us, I mean the horseback riders of Kosciusko County. The closest places to trail ride around here are an hour or more away. It would be nice to have a place nearby where we could go to ride, especially with the fall foliage coming soon. And I’m sure if someone set up a local benefit ride for horseback riders, several of us would show up.

I’ve been on three benefit rides in the past: one in Decatur and two near South Bend. We all had fun, made new friends, and had our “horsey” time while raising money for less fortunate people. Each ride I went on had over 30 horses participating in them, so we raised lots of money for our cause.

Right now my friends and I have to resort to riding on the roads and putting up with teenage boys doing wheelies on their motorcycles as they pass our horses. We go past several properties with their horses just standing in the fields; no one else is riding. It’s a shame.

Also, the county fair schedule lists when the tractor pulls are, who’s going to be there singing, when the fireworks will be happening, but I have yet to see when the horse shows are taking place! I’d like to watch them, but I don’t know when they are!

So what about us? When can we be included?
