Welfare

On May 19, 2008, what we used to refer to as the welfare office moved from Lake Street to 2307 Center St. There is no sign any way to designate the location of that office or the parking for it so I called Andy Stoelting, the head of the Family & Social Services Administration in Indianapolis. I asked him why they do not put up signs. He told me they are trying to discourage people from visiting that office. They want people to use the Internet or call the 800 number.

Well, that's all fine and good, but what does a person do if they do not know how use a computer? You can call and call and call the 800 number and never find someone who understands your question or what you are trying to do because Governor Daniels sold off our welfare offices to IBM so it is not previous welfare employees in our local office but IBM employees.

I had a nightmare of a trip there recently trying to get an answer to a simple question. They turned me away and told me they could not help me because they had never heard of the kind of Medicaid program I am on.

None of the e-mails I have written to Governor Daniels have ever been responded to. I sure do not see where he did any of us a favor by selling that off. That seems to be a bad habit of his - selling Indiana off. But what happened to the money he got? Why are my teacher friends and relatives buying supplies for their classrooms out of their pockets when schools were supposed to be the first to benefit? I doubt I will ever hear from any honest politician.
