Warsaw Community Schools Board of Trustees kicked off the new year by electing its officers and swearing in a new member. Heather Reichenbach will take over as school board president. She was elected unanimously. Reichenbach takes over for interim school board president Matt Dick, who served as president after Jennifer Tandy resigned to move to San Diego. Dick was unanimously elected vice president and Randy Polston was elected as secretary. New board member Elizabeth “Elle” Turley was sworn in. Turley won the seat in the November election after board member Curt Hermann decided to not to seek re-election, and she was unopposed. Polston and board member Jay Baumgartner, who were re-elected in uncontested races, also were sworn in. In other business, the board approved to replace 10 buses. Four of the buses were destroyed in the fire in January 2016. These will be paid for from reimbursement from the insurance company. The other six were scheduled to be replaced in 2016, and will be paid for out of the budget. The motion passed 7-0. The board heard the financial reports, which stated revenues for all budgeted funds totaled $14,660,876.84 and expenditures for all budgeted funds totaled $11,338,928.93. For year-to-date, revenues for all budgeted funds through December totaled $69,669,690.60, and expenditures for all budgeted funds totaled $67,554,992.32. The board heard a request for two literacy coaches to travel to a national reading conference in Columbus, Ohio. The action will be voted on at the regular board meeting next week.
