Wawasee Takes Down Whitko In Sectional Preview To Lead Roundup

SOUTH WHITLEY — In a preview of Thursday’s sectional matchup at Warsaw, the Wawasee and Whitko girls tennis teams met in South Whitley Tuesday.
Wawasee and Whitko will meet at 5 p.m. in the semifinals of the Warsaw Sectional, but in the regular season finale, Wawasee won 3-2.
For Wawasee, it’s strength was on the singles courts, where Esther Hermann, Katy Ashpole and Priscilla Par won at No. 1, 2 and 3, respectively.
Whitko’s Laura Alfieri and Abby Marshall won at No. 1 doubles, while Candice Swick and Erin Murphy were victors at No. 2 doubles.

Hosting Fairfield Tuesday, the Wawasee baseball team fell 10-2. In the loss, Wawasee’s Derrick Sorensen posted two doubles, while being hit with the pitching loss. The 3-16 Warriors are at Concord today.

In a three-way, Three Rivers Conference boys golf match at the Round Barn Golf Course in Rochester Tuesday, Wabash defeated Tippecanoe Valley on a fifth-man tiebreaker. Wabash and Valley each shot a 171, but Wabash’s fifth-man score was better than Valley’s, while Northfield finished with a 174. Wabash’s Jordan Blair was the medalist with his 39, while Valley was led by Bryce Zimpelman’s 40. Valley is in another three-team conference match Thursday at Sycamore Golf Club, taking on Manchester and Whitko.

Grabbing four runs in the first three innings, the Triton softball team went on to get a 4-1 win at Manchester Tuesday. Brycelyn Garbison got the win, striking out six, while Krystal Sellers went 3 for 4 in the victory. For Manchester, Kalene Freshour was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a triple. The 18-7 Lady Trojans host New Prairie today and Manchester travels to Northfield.
