Wawasee Rally Falls Short Against DeKalbSYRACUSE – After scoring just 20 points in the first half Tuesday evening, Wawasee High School’s varsity boys basketball team netted 22 in the fourth quarter.
The Warriors’ rally, however, fell short in a 64-54 loss to the visiting DeKalb Barons.
DeKalb, the school Wawasee coach Jon Everingham led before coming to the Warriors, led 16-9 after one quarter of play, 32-20 at halftime and 46-32 heading into the final frame.
Wawasee shot 51 percent from the field overall, 45 percent from three-point range, and made all five of its free throw attempts.
The Barons, on the other hand, were 42 percent from the field overall and 35 percent from the arc.
DeKalb won the game with free throws and rebounds, as the Barons were 21 of 25 at the charity stripe and outrebounded Wawasee 29-18.
DeKalb gathered 18 offensive boards in the win, scored 14 second-chance points and netted 17 points off Wawasee turnovers.
The Barons improved to 6-3 and extended their win streak to five games, while the Warriors fell to 3-6.
Logan Brown led DeKalb with 22 points and five rebounds, while teammate Issac Brown finished with 20 points and six boards.
Aaron Evans paced the Warriors with 12 points, while Trevon Coleman and Bennett Hoffert tallied eight and six points, respectively.
