Wawasee Opens Track Season With Losses At Columbia CityCOLUMBIA CITY – Wawasee opened its outdoor track seasons Tuesday with a pair of losses at Columbia City. The boys team fell 88-44 and the Lady Warriors lost 77-55.
Hannah-Marie Lamle and Elizabeth Zorn were double-winners for the Lady Warriors. Lamle was first in the long jump and 300 hurdles, and Zorn won the 1,600 and 3,200-meter races.
Alexis Manges won the discus, Sara Pritchard the shot put and Jada Parzygnot the pole vault for Wawasee.
“There were many great performances despite the loss,” said Wawasee coach Scott Lancaster. “Jada Parzygnot matched last season’s best pole vault already. Elizabeth Zorn ran  great races, and Hannah-Marie won two events. We scored well, but depth will be a problem for us this season.”
The Wawasee boys got wins in the 4x800 and 4x100 relays. Cole VanLue won the 100, Sam Griner the 1,600, Luke Griner the 800, Elisha Tipping the shot and Spencer Hare broke the tape in the 3,200 run.
“We don’t have a lot of depth, so winning a dual meet will be a struggle,” Lancaster said. “Despite losing, we had many great performances.
“Michael Hammer stood out by running a solid leg in the 4x800 and then repeating his performance in the open 800. Cole VanLue, Luke Griner, Sam Griner and Spencer Hare all ran well. Eric Yankosky made a lot of progress in the pole vault.”
Wawasee opens the home part of its schedule with a dual against Westview Thursday.
