Wawasee Boys Soccer Wins Big At Riley
SOUTH BEND – Sophomore Chris Pena scored four goals for the second time in as many games, leading Wawasee to an 8-3 win at South Bend Riley in a non-conference boys soccer match Thursday night.
Ryan Edington added a pair of goals for the Warriors, and Ian Lambright and Chris Strombeck added a goal each.
“(It’s) exciting to see our guys building momentum for the season,” Wawasee coach Jordan Sharp said. “Plenty of goals in the first few games, and it’s exciting to see how far we can take this team. Really proud of the guys for not allowing any goals the second half ... team is gelling well and can go far this year.”
Riley won the junior varsity contest 3-1. Jace Mishler scored the Wawasee goal, with the assist from Dillon Drake.
Wawasee will open Northern Lakes Conference play Saturday at Concord.
Wawasee Girls Golf Beats Westview
SYRACUSE – Belle Brunner shot a 45 and Zoe White posted a 47 to lead Wawasee to a 189-240 girls golf win over Westview in a non-conference match Thursday at Maxwelton Golf Club.
Jadison Rostochak had a 48, Tate Cowan a 49 and Lesley Tayagua a 52 for Wawasee.
The Lady Warriors will play in the Rochester Invitational on Saturday.
Plymouth Downs Warriors
SYRACUSE – Wawasee opened its Northern Lakes Conference boys tennis season with a 5-0 loss to visiting Plymouth on Thursday.
The three singles matches saw Wawasee win only seven games, and all the matches were completed in straight sets. The No. 2 doubles duo of Evan Ritchey and Brady Robinson had the toughtest match, falling 6-4, 6-2.
Wawasee (0-3, 0-1 NLC) plays a non-conference match at Central Noble Tuesday.
Falcons Sweep Wawasee
SYRACUSE – Fairfield swept Wawasee in the Lady Warriors’ first home volleyball match of the season.
Scores and statistics from the match were not made available.
Fairfield won the junior varsity match in three sets. Ella Williamson had 25 digs, and Kenzie Click had three kills. Beth Flannery and Molly Jones combined for six aces.
The Warriors host Lakeland in a non-conference match Monday.
