INDIANAPOLIS – Eleven- year-old Drake Price of Warsaw was one of eight children recently honored as a “Riley Champion.”
Price and other children participated in the Riley Coin Toss Kids at the Indianapolis Colts game Sept. 24 at Lucas Oil Stadium, according to news release from Riley Children’s Foundation.
They also will be honored at the Riley Children’s Foundation Annual Luncheon on Nov. 17 as well as other events at his school and a nearby Kroger store.
Price was in the children’s hospital earlier this year to get treatment for a brian tumor.
Doctors removed a tumor on Price’s brain but he suffered a stroke shortly after the procedure.
During Price’s 13-hour surgery, his family gave live updates to teachers, friends and family via emails, texts and the #DrakeStrong Facebook page.
His stroke required intensive inpatient rehabilitation to relearn how to walk, talk and return back to normal function.
Riley Champions Presented by Kroger is a program that honors patients from Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health who have inspired communities with their bravery and commitment to help others despite overcoming medical challenges, the news release said.
The children will serve as advocates and ambassadors for Riley by sharing their stories and participating in special events throughout the year.
Price is a huge supporter of police and hopes to be an officer one day. Because of his passion, Price was named an honorary member of the Warsaw Police Department, and received a police escort home from Riley Hospital.
