Warsaw's Dominance At Homestead Invite Leads Roundup

FORT WAYNE — The seventh-ranked Warsaw boys golf team won Saturday’s Homestead Invitational by 18 strokes in Fort Wayne. Playing on Orchard Ridge Country Club’s par-70 course, the Tigers finished their round with a 306, while No. 20 Northridge was second with a 324. Ball State University-bound Tyler Ostrom was the medalist on the day, shooting par, while his teammates Tim Ahlersmeyer and Jon Schram tied for second by shooting a 75 each. Also for the Tigers, Bennett Hollar and Evan Cultice each shot an 86. The Wawasee Warriors placed 16th in the 18-team tournament with a 349, led by Derek Zurcher’s 83, followed by Luke Jackson’s 85 and Mason Germonprez’s 87. Also for Wawasee, Dylan Cousins and Tristan Atwood each had a 94. Wawasee hosts Penn and LaVille today at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club, while Warsaw’s next match is Tuesday at Plymouth Country club against Plymouth and Elkhart Memorial.

Saturday in Bremen
The 18th-ranked Triton boys golf team claimed Saturday’s LaVille Invitational, held at Sprig O’Mint Golf Course in Bremen. The Trojans finished their round with a 315, while LaVille shot a 321 and Tippecanoe Valley finished with a 330 to round out the top three. LCA also competed in the tournament, shooting a 366, good for seventh in the 10-team field.

Hosting Valparaiso Saturday, the Warsaw baseball team got itself a couple of wins. Opening the doubleheader with a 3-1 victory, the Tigers came back and took the second game 6-1, improving their season record to 8-9. Brady Ousley had a double in the opening game and a home run in the second. The Tigers host Plymouth today in NLC action. The Wawasee baseball team lost a 10-inning game 5-3 Saturday at home against Fort Wayne Concordia. In defeat, the Wawasee offense was led by Gage Reinhard, who went 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Whitko senior Wes Gensch had a complete-game shutout Saturday, as the Wildcats post and 11-0 win at Southwood. In the Three Rivers Conference victory, Gensch struck out five, walked one and surrendered just three hits in seven innings of work. Also for Whitko, Zach Snep had two doubles, going 4 for 5 with four RBIs and a stolen base, while Ryan Weigold was 2 for 4 with three RBIs. The 13-5 Wildcats are at Rochester today.
