Warsaw Opens NLC Play With Win Over Goshen

Posted

A week after suffering a disappointing first loss of the season in the home opener to Warren Central, the Warsaw football team went back on the road and got back into the win column. The Tigers headed to Goshen to take on the RedHawks and came away with a 37-7 win for a victory in the team’s Northern Lakes Conference opener.

Warsaw scored its first touchdown five minutes into the game and never looked back. Brody Duncan began things with a one-yard TD run and that opened the flood gates. The Tigers went on to score five touchdowns in the first half, with four different players responsible.

After Duncan’s score, quarterback Quinton Brock got in on the action, taking one in from the goal line and another from 16 yards out. Brock had 35 yards on the ground to go with those two scores and also completed two passes for 20 yards.

Speedster Tucker Reed was the next player to find the end zone, as the impressive junior ran in a 34-yard touchdown. Reed tallied a team-high 124 rushing yards on just five carries, averaging a whopping 24.8 yards a touch.

Daylon Fitzpatrick was the final touchdown scorer for the Tigers, as he punched one in from three yards out with just over a minute to go in the first half to give the visitors a commanding 34-0 lead at the break.

The only points Warsaw would score in the second half came from the special teams, as kicker John Conley hit a 38-yard field goal to implement the running clock.

Goshen’s lone touchdown came with five minutes left in the game. It was a 20-yard pass by Carter Diaz to Colton Rapp.

Duncan’s 39 yards rushing were second on the team. Fitzpatrick ran for 23. Michael Schenck, who led Warsaw in rushing in the team’s season-opening win against Fort Wayne Snider before missing last week’s game to injury, returned in this one and logged 27 yards on four carries.

Warsaw returns to Fisher Field next week and will host Wawasee in the W game. It will also be alumni night.
