SYRACUSE – Wawasee hosted the gymnastics sectional on Saturday. The Lady Warriors finished third at the event as a team and Warsaw ended fifth. Elkhart Central won the sectional.
To advance to regional, an athlete must do one of the following: finish in the top six in an event, place in the top six in the all-around competition, receive a score of the sixth place gymnast at the previous state final meet or the team finishes in the top three overall.
Wawasee senior Reagan Atwood earned first place in the beam event. She scored 9.325 to win. In the vault, she finished second with a score of 9.275. Atwood tallied fourth in the bars (8.625). In the all-around, she received third place with 35.675 total points.
Junior Jada Parzygnot had her best finish of the day in the bars, scoring 8.750 to earn second. She finished fourth on the beam. In the vault, she finished tied for sixth.
For the Lady Tigers, junior Remi Beckham finished fifth in the beam event. She ended seventh in the all-around.
The regional will be held at Huntington North High School on Saturday. First event starts at noon.
