Warsaw Tennis Team's Hunt For NLC Championship Leads Roundup

PLYMOUTH — The Warsaw boys tennis team will be represented in two championship matches Saturday morning at Goshen High School. Playing the semifinals of the Northern Lakes Conference Championships at Plymouth Thursday, Warsaw’s Evan Miller advanced to Saturday’s championship round, as did the No. 2 doubles team of Caleb Ray and Nic Jansen. Miller advanced to the championship match by defeating Goshen’s Luke Rush 6-0, 6-0 Thursday, while Ray and Jansen downed Goshen’s Zach Troyer and Logan Troyer 6-4, 6-0. In the championship round, Miller will face Concord’s Jared Searer and Ray and Jansen will take on Plymouth’s Braydon Davidson and Ryan Johnson. Both championship matches will go a long way into determining the 2013 NLC team champion. Warsaw, Plymouth and Concord all ended the regular season at 6-1 in the conference, and the winner of the tournament will win the NLC championship. Of the three contenders, Concord is playing for three individual championships, Warsaw is up for two and Plymouth is also playing on two championship courts. Also for Warsaw, Sam Rice (No. 1 singles), Kyle Wettschurack (No. 2 singles) and the No. 1 doubles team of Nikos Schlitt and Will Petro will all be in third-place matches. In those third-place matches, Rice will face Plymouth’s John Hunter, Wettschurack is taking on Plymouth’s John Gerard and Schlitt and Petro take on Goshen’s Derick Hostetler and Peter Vukovich. The Manchester boys tennis team posted a 4-1 home win over Tippecanoe Valley Thursday. Manchester’s Connor Eichenauer won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and the Squires’ No. 1 doubles team of Noah Cain and Morgan Metzger were 6-2, 6-2 victors. For Valley, Isaac Shewman won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. Both teams are back in action Monday, as Manchester hosts Rochester and Whitko welcomes in Churubusco. The Warsaw girls soccer team breezed to an 8-0 victory at Manchester Thursday. In the victory, Brooklyn Jackson and Elizabeth VanWormer each accomplished hat tricks, garnering three goals a piece. Also for Warsaw, Danielle Hutcherson and Megan Kratzsch netted scores. The Lady Tigers have now won their last six games and have posted seven-straight shutouts.
