Warsaw Tennis Team Looks Good In First Round Of NLC C'ships, Leading Roundup

Posted
PLYMOUTH — The champion of the Northern Lakes Conference will be decided by Saturday afternoon, but the Warsaw boys tennis team got off to a good start Wednesday in Plymouth.
The NLC regular season ended with Concord, Plymouth and Warsaw all sitting at 6-1, and now at the conference championships, the winner will take all.
Looking to defend its 2012 title, the Tigers won all five of their first-round matches, and will look to advance many of them to Saturday’s championship round in Goshen following another strong showing in today’s semifinals back at Plymouth.
The Tigers knocked off a conference contender at No. 2 Doubles, when the unranked team of Caleb Ray and Nic Jansen defeated the third-seeded Concord team of Riley Huffer and Mitchell Lozier, 6-2, 6-4.
Warsaw’s No. 1 doubles team was also unranked, but Nikos Schlitt and Will Petro didn’t have much trouble with the third-seeded Northridge team of Clay Schnell and Ted Field, winning 6-2, 6-2.
In today’s semifinals, some of the bigger matches will be at No. 1 singles, where Warsaw’s third-seeded Sam Rice faces Concord’s Nick Pollock and Kyle Wettschurack faces Concord’s top-seeded Bernardo Cardario at No. 2 singles.
At No. 1 doubles, Schlitt and Petro face Plymouth’s second-seeded Matt Flynn and Max Holloway.
The Wawasee Warriors didn’t have the success Warsaw did in the first round, losing all five of its matches.
