Warsaw Swim Teams Strong At Inaugural Invite To Lead RoundupThe Warsaw swim teams had a good showing at the first Warsaw Invitational Saturday.
At the inaugural event, the Warsaw boys team took first place out of six teams, while Muncie Central won the girls meet with 591 points, followed by Warsaw’s 479.
Jayden Parrett had a strong day for the boys, winning the 50 free and 100 back, while joining Matt Wildman, Zach Taylor and Mac Pelo on the first-place 200 medley relay.
Taylor also picked up an individual victory, taking first in the 200 IM.
In the girls meet, Warsaw’s Jessica Haines and Ashley Van Wormer won the 500 free and 100 breaststroke, respectively.
Warsaw hosts Huntington North Tuesday.

The Warsaw boys diving team finished first at Saturday’s Western Diving Invitational. Warsaw’s trio of Dean Katris, Brandon Elliott and Ethan Weber tallied a score of 771.00 good for first out of the six teams. The divers join their swimming counterparts for a home meet against Huntington North Tuesday.

Saturday in Winona Lake
After defeating Caston on a buzzer-beating three-pointer in the season opener, the Lakeland Christian Academy Cougars were beaten on a buzzer beater Saturday in Winona Lake. Leading 61-60 late against Hamilton, a scramble broke out for a loose ball, which Hamilton’s Brett Converset recovered and hit the game-winning trey to get his team a 63-61 overtime win. In the loss, Zarek Finley led LCA with 23 points, 11 rebounds and three assists, with Collin Price scoring 16 himself. A key state in the loss was LCA’s free-throw shooting, as the Cougars made just 8 of 23 in the two-point loss. The 1-2 Cougars are at Tippecanoe Valley Tuesday night.

The Manchester Squires finished 1-4 at Saturday’s Wabash County Invitational, which was won by Southwood with a 5-0 mark. Manchester’s Clayton Moore did win an individual title, going 5-0 at 132 pounds. The Squires are back on the mats today, hosting Tippecanoe Valley in a Three Rivers Conference match.
