Warsaw Seniors Shine With Season-Best Score In Roundup

The Warsaw girls golf team celebrated Senior Night with a season-best nine-hole score Tuesday at Stonehenge Golf Club. With three seniors in the varsity lineup, Warsaw defeated Whitko 164-236, as seniors Elizabeth Meadows and Nikki LaLonde each shot a three-over 39 on the course. Also for Warsaw, junior Alexis Manwaring carded a 40, junior Kristen Watson posted a 46 and senior Miranda Domiano finished with a 52. From Whitko, April Bishop led the team with a 53, followed by Kennedy Krull’s 60, Elizabeth Gensch’s 61, Samantha Shell’s 62 and Claire Reiff’s 68. Whitko is at Columbia City Thursday, then both teams are back at Stonehenge Saturday for the Warsaw Sectional. In a matchup between the top two boys cross country teams in the Northern Lakes Conference Tuesday in Nappanee, 11th-ranked Warsaw defeated 18th-ranked Northridge 23-32. Also defeating NorthWood (15-48), the Tigers now sit at 4-0 in the NLC. Warsaw’s Ellis Coon was the top runner at the meet, winning in 16:27, with Tyler Houvener finishing fourth (17:01) and Daniel Messenger placing fifth (17:02). Zach Cockrill won Tuesday’s Northern Lakes Conference meet at Plymouth, helping his Wawasee boys cross country team defeat the host 17-44 and Elkhart Memorial 22-33. Cockrill won the meet in 17:27, with Adam Doll finishing second (17:31) and Austin Yoder placing fourth (17:49). The win improves Wawasee to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the NLC.
