What are we willing to pay for these new "state-of-the-art" schools? We open a new school before it is even finished. We send our children to school and they come home sick from the dust because we can't put down the floor. As a parent I am told it is a legal matter and no details can be given out as far as when the floor will be put down or what is being done to reduce the dust in the school. Our son comes home everyday all plugged up and coughing along with a tongue that looks like it is bleeding from all the dust in his classroom. On the weekends our son gets better only to be sick again by Tuesday.
We are short several teachers because we have spent money to build the schools but now we cannot pay the teachers that are needed to teach our kids in the new schools. What good is a new school without the necessary teachers to teach?
Our son has a speech, learning and hearing disability. School has been in session for more than six weeks and none of his teachers have even read his IEP let alone made sure he is getting the help he needs. His progress report has a D and two out of his three teachers could not tell me why he is struggling or what we can do to help our son. His teachers passed the buck back and forth and made the excuse that we are "short teachers" and that is why our son is not getting the help he is required by law to receive.
I ask again, at what price are we willing to pay for our children's education by building new schools but not hiring the necessary people to teach them or by sending them to a new school that was opened before it was completed? Is it worth having our kids coming home everyday sick from all the dust in the air and on their desks? I say no it is not worth it.
