A man arrested Wednesday on a failure to appear charge attempted to rob a bank today an hour after being released from jail – while a police officer sat at the drive-up ATM, police say.
]In the photo at right, the shirtless bank robbery suspect, Raymond Halsey, 27, Syracuse, is escorted to a squad car near the intersection of High and Market streets. He faces charges of attempted bank robbery, failure to identify and disorderly conduct.
He’s being held on $10,250 bond. At 9:03 a.m., today police say Halsey walked into the main branch of Lake City Bank, 202 E. Center St., and, with a red bandana covering his hand, yelled "Give me all your (expletive) money," according to a news release from the Warsaw Police Department.
The man paced the lobby, then walked out of the bank going east after about 15 seconds. No weapon was displayed and no money was taken.
A Warsaw police officer in an unmarked car was at the drive-up ATM on the east side of the bank when the suspect, described as a white male wearing green sweatpants and no shirt, walked in front of him. A bank employee alerted the officer to the attempted robbery and the suspect was taken into custody just minutes later. No weapon was located.
