A Warsaw man is in jail on charges of rape and strangulation.
Jeremy Summers, 39, of 720 W. Center St., Warsaw, was charged with one count of rape, a level 3 felony; one count of criminal confinement, a level 3 felony; one count of strangulation, a level 6 felony; and one count of domestic battery, a level 3 felony.
On Aug. 24, law enforcement responded to a domestic violence call at about noon.
According to a probable cause affidavit from the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office, the victim had called from a Warsaw school after managing to escape from Summers, who had kept her confined to the bedroom.
She told police Summers became angry with her and began to strike and choke her. The victim told the police Summers asked her, “How does it feel to draw your last breath?” as he was assaulting her.  She told the police that Summers had forced her to have sex with him during the assault.
According to the affidavit, police found scratches and bruises on the victim.
A neighbor told the police she heard screaming from the residence and cries of “Help me, help me.”
By the time the police got to scene of the alleged crime, Summers had fled. Summers was later apprehended after a telephone conversation with the police in which he said he wanted to kill himself because he felt so bad about hurting the victim, according to the affidavit.
Summers is being held in the Kosciusko County Jail. Bail was set at $50,250. Summers has not appeared in court yet.
