A Warsaw man is facing charges after police allege he beat up a 3-year-old girl. Caleb Michael Devine, 24, of 328 Eisenhower Parkway, Warsaw, was arrested on Monday but law enforcement only recently released details of the arrest. A Warsaw police officer met with the victim and two adults Monday. The officer said the girl had swelling to her upper and lower lip and a red mark on her neck consistent with being choked, according to charging documents. The girl’s mother told police Devine was baby-sitting the toddler the night before. When the mother woke up after her graveyard shift, she noticed the injuries to the girl. The mother said Devine told her the injuries occurred when he was giving the child a bath and she fell and hit her neck. The toddler was taken to Kosciusko?Community Hospital for treatment, Devine told police he was the only person present when the toddler was hurt and insisted that she fell while he was trying to put her in the bathtub. Warsaw police and a Child Protective Services officer searched Devine’s residence and found paraphernalia used to smoke marijuana. Devine faces one charge of battery to a person less than 14 years of age, a level 6 felony, and one count of neglect of a dependent, a level 6 felony. As of Friday afternoon,?Devine was being held in the Kosciusko?County Jail. Bond was set at $6,000.
