Editor, Times-Union: For more than a decade, I've had the privilege of not only working with Dr. Joe Thallemer on the common council, but I've also been very thankful to call him my at-large representative at the local level. During this time, Joe has displayed characteristics and qualities I would like to see more of from other candidates and public officials at all levels of government.
Joe is a dedicated husband who has raised his family and established a successful optometry practice within the city limits of Warsaw. He continues to dedicate countless hours of his time and talents to many private and public organizations that are vital to the well-being of our community. Whether it's picking up a shovel, sitting on an advisory board, or donating money to a good cause, Joe places a high value on serving others and giving back to the community he loves.
Joe's work ethic, his problem solving skills, and his willingness to respect different viewpoints during the policymaking process, has not only earned great admiration from other local officials, but it has also garnered a great deal of support and trust from the citizens he represents. Years ago, our common council voted for Joe to be our Council President because he earned it. Joe is what I would call a “servant-leader” in our community. If you know Joe or you have had the privilege to work with him in any capacity, I believe you would be hard-pressed to say anything otherwise.
Years ago, while talking about President Eisenhower, former Senator and presidential candidate Bob Dole said, “IKE didn't seek the office of the presidency, the office sought him.” I think Senator Dole was referring to how Eisenhower had earned the opportunity to serve in our nation's highest executive office. To put it simply, Ike was the right man for the job and people knew it. Well, on a much smaller scale, but no less important for our great city, I believe Dr. Joe Thallemer has earned the opportunity to serve as our chief executive. In this election, I firmly believe Joe is the right man for the job.
Even though we don't always agree and we have had our differences, I've been telling people for years that “I like Joe” because I've personally witnessed his positive commitment and excellent service to our great city. I hope other registered voters will help me thank and encourage this excellent servant-leader by electing him mayor of Warsaw on Election Day.
