A week ago, after the team’s disappointing 38-7 loss to Northern Lakes conference foe Concord spoiled homecoming, Warsaw head coach Bart Curtis was not pleased. He stressed the team needed to improve a lot to be able to bounce back this Friday night against Plymouth. Looking to get back in the win column combined with the fact that the Rockies upset the Tigers at Fisher Field last season, the Tigers answered the call. Scoring the first 28 points of the game, Warsaw picked up a 42-14 road win to remain above .500.
Michael Schenck got the scoring started just four minutes into the game, running one in from three yards out to put his team on the board. That would be the only score of the first quarter, but less than two minutes into the second, the Tigers doubled their lead. This scoring play was a bit more explosive than the first, as quarterback Quinton Brock connected with Logan Carl for a 36-yard touchdown pass to make it 14-0.
Just six minutes later, another massive play resulted in points for Warsaw. Wyatt Harman was able to break free near midfield, making a few Plymouth defenders miss en route to a 54-yard TD run. This gave the game its halftime score of 21-0.
Five minutes into the second half, Brock threw his second long touchdown pass of the night, this time a 45 yarder to Parker Sweet. Now down by 28 points, the Rockies showed some resiliency and began to battle back. The next two scores belonged to the home side, as Finn Holm ran in a pair of touchdowns from eight and five yards out.
That would be as close as Plymouth got. The Tigers finished the game with two more scores, another three-yard score from Schenck, as well as a two-yard score by Brody Duncan to give the game its final score with 24 seconds left.
Duncan led the team in rushing with 86 yards rushing on 18 carries. Harman tallied 52 yards on just three carries, while Schenck added 48 yards to go with his two scores. To go with his 29 rushing yards, Brock passed for 99 yards on three completions.
Warsaw (4-2, 2-1 NLC) will remain on the road next week for a huge game against NLC leaders Mishawaka.
