Warriors Blank NorthWood In Sectional SemifinalSYRACUSE – After a winless Northern Lakes Conference season, Wawasee’s boys soccer team beat fellow NLC member NorthWood 2-0 in the 2A Wawasee Sectional semifinals at Warrior Field Wednesday evening.
Both Warrior goals came in the first half. Ian Lambright found Chris Pena with a sideline throw-in for the first goal. Ryan Edington then scored off a Lambright corner kick for a 2-0 lead.
Dillon Drake had the shutout in goal for the Warriors, who improved to 7-7-3 on the season.
“Shutting out NorthWood felt great,” Wawasee coach Jordan Sharp said. “Our boys didn't keep other teams scoreless most of the season, so this was very exciting.
“It was great seeing the boys play hard together and keep the shutout. I’m excited to see them play in the sectional final.”
Wawasee had two other shutouts this season, both over Lakeland. The first was a 4-0 win in LaGrange on Sept. 21, and the other was a 3-0 sectional win Monday night.
In Wednesday’s other semifinal, Garrett and Angola played to a 1-1 tie after regulation time, and were tied 2-2 after 14 minutes of overtime. Garrett won 6-5 on penalty kicks to advance to Saturday’s sectional final.
The Warriors and Railroaders (8-8-1) will kickoff at 2 p.m. at Warrior Field.
