Warm, Dry Trend Coming To An End, Meteorolgist Says

Posted
A long stretch of warm and mostly dry weather is about to come to an end in northern Indiana.
While another warm up will result in temps in the upper 60s – more than 15 degrees above the normal – on Thursday and Friday, more seasonable conditions arrive Saturday and Sunday when there is a slight chance of snow showers.
Recent warm, dry conditions in recent weeks have made for a pleasant autumn in much of northern Indiana.
Overall, temperatures in November have been consistently above average and the amount of rain has been below normal, said Nathan Marsili, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in North Webster.
Normal highs and lows for this time of year for South Bend are 50 and 34, he said.
The first 10 days of the month, parts of northern Indiana were as much as 20 to 25 degrees above normal, Marsili said.
In recent days, temps have been 10 to 12 days above normal, he said.
The warm, dry trend is the result of westerly flow of warm air from the Plains states.
“With the westerly flow, there have not been many opportunities for significant moisture to be drawn up from the Gulf states,” Marsili said.
The forecast for Wednesday calls for partly sunny skies and a high temp near 60. Warmer conditions follow that with highs in the mid-to-upper 60s Thursday and Friday and mostly sunny skies.
Conditions turn sharply colder Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s high and low is forecast to be 44 and 30 and Sunday’s will be 41 and 28. Saturday and Sunday includes a chance of rain and snow showers, but no accumulation is expected, Marsili said.
The winter forecast for northern Indiana calls for wetter-than-normal precipitation. Temperatures are expected to be close to normal, Marsili said.
