As I write this letter at my dining table to the left of my notepad there is a flyer from the Republican National Committee. On the right is a "letter to the editor" written by a Democrat. Needless to say the two have very opposite views.
Possibly never before in our nation's history has there been a more disturbing, confusing and frightening election year.
It seems, from both parties, their most important thrust is to degrade and defame the other. Is it because neither have any real solutions to our country's many problems? What has happened that a candidate no longer states his/her values, ideas and proposals and then leave it at that?
Our country has had many serious problems for quite some time. Unfortunately for too long, "good men have done nothing, evil is prevailing."
There is a long list of hot topics being debated by McCain and Obama. The national debt, the economy, the war in Iraq, offshore drilling, global warming, illegal aliens, abortion and same-sex marriage are at the top of the list.
The more we hear about this upcoming election, the more confused we become because one candidate states a fact, then the other opposes or denies it. We end up shaking our heads in frustration knowing that what has been given to us as two choices seem to be far from "the cream of the crop."
As Christians we must vote according to God's mandate. We must not vote because one party may or may not improve our standard of living. Because God says, "Thou shalt not commit murder," we cannot vote for someone that did not want the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act of 2002. Shouldn't an infant that is alive after an abortion be allowed to live? Obama thinks not.
Abortion and homosexuality are sins like all others. God will always forgive us of them. The question is how can God forgive a country if we keep voting into office politicians that see these sins as right.
When we are judged by God, He will remember this election. We want it recorded that we voted by our convictions only.
God says that if we have a thought it is the same as actually following through with it. Is it possible that by voting for a man that is in favor of destroying life that God gives, might one be held responsible for being a party to that awful crime?
God tells us if we would seek Him first all other things He will give to us. God wants to help us turn our problems around, but we must first live honoring Him and His ways.
