Viola M. Stein, 88, Mentone, and formerly of Columbus, Ohio, died at 2:20 a.m June 8, 2015, at the home of her granddaughter, Kimber Lee, and grandson, Kerry Goshert.
She was born April 14, 1927, in Point Pleasant, Ohio, to Nial B. and Goldie Holly Scott. Her stepmother was Ethel Scott. In 1971 in Whitehall, Ohio, she married Paul W. Stein, who preceded her in death Dec. 2, 2011.
She retired as head custodian from Worthington (Ohio) Kilbourne High School, where she had served for 30 years. She attended Meadowpark Church of God on Bethel Road, Columbus, Ohio, with her husband. She always enjoyed cake decorating and spending time with her family, being a loving mother and grandmother.
Surviving are four sons: David E. (and spouse Franziska) Watrus Jr., El Paso, Texas; Charles B. Watrus, Litchfield, Ohio; Richard Allen (and spouse Sandra) Watrus, Logan, Ohio; Nial Russell (and spouse Becky) Watrus, Fredericksburg, Va.; two daughters, Carolyn Lee (and spouse Dale) Bing, Bonita Springs, Fla., and Sherri (and spouse Thomas) Albrecht, Naperville, Ill.; four stepchildren: Phyllis A. (and spouse Robert) Robinson, Cecelia A. Stein, Paula L. (and spouse Joseph) Harper and Paul Billy Stein Jr.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Elaine Watrus; a daughter-in-law, Rose Watrus; great-grandson, Taylor D. Malcolm; four sisters: Wilda (and spouse Harold) Meadows, Pauline (and spouse Roy) Vine, Hazel (and spouse Thomas) Cuckler and Inez (and spouse Leo) Cloutier; two brothers, Stanley (and spouse Elizabeth) Scott and Millard (and spouse Eileen) Scott; and a half sister, Gladis Wacker.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Oak Grove Community Church, 1300 Wooster Road, Winona Lake, with Pastor Doug Lemon officiating. Graveside services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Union Cemetery Chapel, 3349 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, Ohio. Burial is in Union Grove Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio.
Arrangements are entrusted to King Memorial Home, Mentone.
