Veterans Day

Editor, Times-Union:

The holiday season is rapidly approaching. Some are observed, some aren't, depending on the person's beliefs. There is one holiday coming that every American should be observing: Veterans Day.

We all should give thanks to the many veterans who have fought for our freedoms, and the many who still are fighting for us and other countries. There will be a service at Central Park Pavilion again this year.

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 49 is planning to have a display there of photos of our military people. Those who have served, and who are serving. We are asking for community input. If any military family member has a photo of their veteran, please bring it to the American Legion by Nov. 2. We want to share these veterans with everyone. Put name, branch, dates served on back. Also, include a contact person so we can return the photos later.

Also, the auxiliary is making plans to fill boxes with items for our military personnel overseas. We will be collecting convenience item, snacks, cameras, anything we can get to help their lives, days be little easier away from home. Anyone wanting to donate items, please contact Kelly Davis or bring to American Legion. A box will be set up soon. Also, if anyone would like to contribute cash to buy items that would be accepted.

Show your support for many veterans by attending the services at the park. Wake up, America, give thanks for what we have and remember how we got the freedoms we have. From the lives and blood of our military!
